Well, I stopped by my dealer to check on my 05 order the other day and I see they just took in a 2003 Mach 1. Azure Blue with a 5 spd. Only 7,100 miles.

I could not resist. Took it for a test drive. Incredible torque. And the Shaker scoop that sits atop the hood made my knees weak.

For just a second, I actually considered it. They were asking $22,900 but said I could have it for $21,700. I guess they stickered for almost 30K?
But I came to my senses.

I am sticking with the 05, but every time I go by that Mach...

Hey Chris,

Offer them $20,000 out the door and see what they say. It's a great car. Great looks, great brakes , great seats, great motor, what else, let's see, is it because I own one. Nothing against the '05, it's just kinda plain looking. Nice car though, just not for me.

Ha! That is what my wife said to do - lay 20K down and see what happens...

I agree that it looks a little plain - and I would add the stripes like in the pic and a Shaker scoop as soon as possible.

But I am still thinking about it.

go for the Mach 1. they are amazing. makes me wish i would have shopped around some more and got a Red Mach 1 instead of my GT. :bang: Now I have to spend the price difference of the GT and the Mach 1 to make my GT stand out. shucks

No question....get the Mach. That would be the only Mustang I would get rid of my '98 for.

I made the switch to a Mach back in '03, I'm glad I did.

Yah, I would take the mach first and u could spend the extra 10k in mods instead of a 05.

Well, I stopped by on Thursday and the darn thing was still there. So I had to look at it again. And sit in it. And start it up.

Got to talking price and he said he could come down to $20,700.

In 4 days he dropped $2200.00. Listen to your wife. Leave him your name and number. Tell him when he wants to sell it, call you, you'll give him 20, and walk away. Then wait for your call.

I'd buy it. Not just because the horsepower is the same as the 05 but you save some money for mods, it's instantly different from "any" GT on the road.........and it has the shaker hood.

I was thinking about $19,500.

Anyway, here is my reasoning - it goes back and forth.

Reasons for the 03 Mach 1:

Close to 5K less.
Nearly same HP as 05.
5 spd.
Shaker Scoop.
A lot of heavy duty components compared to regular GT.
Limited production.
I can have it today - no wait.

Negative side -

When 05s are out in force, I may wish I had stayed with the 05.
Although it is a one-owner car, hard to say who has thrashed it.

Reasons for the 05:

Love the body style.
Nearly same HP as Mach 1.
Love the interior.
Will add stripes and aftermarket Shaker scoop.
Love the Bullit wheels.
A lot of nice aftermarket stuff coming out this year.

Negative side -

Higher cost.
No build date yet - could be a long wait.
May not be as rare or "collectible" as the Mach.

I think when alllllllllll the 05's are on the road you'll see getting the Mach 1 as a positive. You will be the rare one, not just another GT. Good luck on your decision making.

Have the dealer run an OASIS report and a carfax. If everything checks out OK and you want it, buy it. That's a good price for a low mileage mach. I have the same car with less miles (5K) and would not let it go today for any less than that for sure. Good luck and you will not be disappointed.

Stupid question - can it run on 87 octane or is it strictly 91?

Also, are there any skeletons in the closet with this special model (Mach 1) and year of car, or did Ford have most of the bugs worked out?
