Service Bulletin

TSB Number 01-23-5
Issue Date NOV 01
TSB Title M/T - T45 Stuck In Reverse/Pops Out Of Reverse

I have this Pops Out Of Reverse in my 97 Cobra and I found this Service Bulletin. The car is under an extended warranty which covers the engine and transmission and was wondering if my problem is covered under the warranty. Would this bulletin help me in getting it covered under the warranty?

Any information is appreciated.

Its very possible they will still cover it. But they will try to find any way out of it they can. All you can do is take it to them and find out.

Check with your local dealer. My ignition switch burned out in my 91 yes 91 GT about 2 months ago. I found a TSB on it, called the dealer, they towed it in, replaced the switch and called me when it was ready.

Didn't cost me a penny, and the car is waaaaaay over warranty.

It doesn't hurt to ask!

I took my car into the dealer today. They said they will look at it in the morning and let me know what's up with it. The inspection fee is $79.00. $100.00 deductable if it is covered under the warranty. The mechanic knows about the TSB and hopefully it's covered...I should know tomorrow.

The dealer says they will replace the reverse fork which is causing the grinding. I'll be happy if that's the fix.

They also recommend replacing the clutch, which is not under warranty. I didn't have clutch problems, but should I go with their recommendation? What do you all think?

i'd go ahead and consider replacing it since they will have the tranny out. Stock one lasted me 75k, but it was well worn by 60k. If you want a well performing performance clutch, check out the ford racing kng cobra kit. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_...rtKeyField=1794

Now that the transmission is out, the oil from the transmission looks burnt and has metal shavings. The tech said maybe the syncros are going. They will open the transmission and replace whatever is needed. I hope they do a good job.

You think I can try to get a new transmission?

And I decided to have the clutch replaced. There was an aftermarket clutch on it which was pretty beat up on.

If you only have 40k miles on it, I would stage a protest until they fix it for free! especially as ford offers a 100k drivetrain warrenty (except wear and tear items) of which, the gears themselves are not one!

Aren't car manufacturers required by law to fix any known problems that could possibly be safety hazards free of charge?

Hmm...

And Ford has a 100k drivetrain limited warranty? I... didn't know that.

After a week and a half, I finally got the cobra back. They replaced broken fork, syncros, gears, put a new clutch in, and replaced a bunch of other stuff in the transmission. Feels good driving, but it still has that reverse grind at times. It's better than before, but it's there. I'm pretty sure it will get worse with time.

Would you all recommend taking it back right away, or wait for it to get worse? I don't feel like going with out my car another week for them to fix it, at least right now, and I can live with this grind until it gets bad. It's still under the extended warranty; i just got the car a few months ago. What does everyone think?

Thanks for all your replys.
