I recently blew my motor and just replaced it with a new longblock. I'm thinking I may want to supercharge it this time around.

I am trying to figure out the best deal for a kit and what all I would need to buy. Budget is important.

the procharger kits come complete. I have found them to be the best centrifugal blower out their.

 

For a budget, you can get a vortech SQ1 kit for a resonable price. places like partshopper.com and mustangracing.com can help you out. aside from the blower plumbing itself, you will need injectors, maf, fuel pump and tune. To do it right, but at hte least amout of money, you are looking around 4,500 to get everything done including tune. You can find used units on ebay and some mustang sites, but be wary, they may not have all the parts needed and you never know the full details of what all was done with teh kit.

 

Thank you. I have always liked Vortech's kits. I plan on doing the install myself. The full Vortech kit comes with injector's right? I do not plan on a cooler right now, so the boost level will be moderate. Thanks again.

 

I wouldnt recomend anything over 9psi on the stock block anyways. The procharger base kit comes with an intercooler. The longblock you put in is it a stock block or aftermarket??

At the top of my "things to buy" list is Procharger's P1-SC with 3 core intercooler, problably 10 psi. I'm a little sketchy about putting the supers possible 12 psi into stock internals for the obvious reasons. Wondering if with proper tune/spark retard and high octane fuels if 12 psi will be possible if I don't beat on hear that often.

Anyone have experience/heard an ACTUAL account of someone using *X* amount of boost and fragging their motor?

ULTIMATE goal...500 RWHP

 

You can hit 500rwhp on a stock motor with the right amount of boost. Especially since you are going with the procharger and intercooler. The intercooler will make it safer, BUT, dont expect the motor to last very long at that level. 400rwhp is about the safest you can maintain on a 4.6L in stock form. At that range or anything over, I would go ahead and plan on a built motor.

I'd say it'd take at least 14psi to make 500rwhp on a stock motor. Maybe more. Again, you are on borrowed time.

 

OK. next question. When my borrowed time is up, whats the end result most likely to be? Thrown rod?

What about blow-by? (Boosted air making it past the piston rings and into the crankcase)

Think I can make 500 without that much boost? i.e...good manifold, like the P-51 from Fox Lake, and other intake/exhaust upgrades...

 

Remember boost is a measure of backpressure. So basically if you take 14psi of boost on a stock motor, keep that same amount of air coming from the s/c, and put through a free'r flowing intake system (better intake, heads etc) it is going to acctually produce less boost, but more power.

You would probably see 12psi with a p51 intake or so and still get 500rwhp. Its still going to be unsafe at that power level. The first thing to go is the pistons. Either cracked or burnt. Then the rods. You may get lucky and it be one rod or piston or it may be 4. You never know. Gotta pay to play is basically the key to remember.
