Shifter problem, still
Shifter problem, still
I once posted how my shifter button was very sticky when moving from Park. I never had it fixed. It just got better on its own. Well, it is very bad again. I talked to my mechanic and he said there is a cable he can grease! Does anyone know what this cable is called? I will just buy a new one, if I can!! Thanks a lot!!!
It's called "The Greese Needing Shifter Cable of DOOM!"
Not sure, but I've never heard of a cable needing greese before... i'd get a second opinion, even a third. I'd call Ford actually. Talk to their tech people or even just a sr. mechanic, tell them the problem, after their answer tell them what your mechanic said and see if it sounds legit. Second opinions keep mechanics honest! Especially when they tell you a lie.
Story time! I had a mechanic that told me about a tranny problem in a '96 Saturn I used to own a few years ago, he told me the gears would get stuck whenever I went into reverse so the car jolted hard, sometimes hitting whenever was behind me, poles, cars, old ladies, kids on bikes, mailpeople, etc. Another mechanic told me that it was just how the factory made the tranny, and it would, after about 50k miles, jolt in reverse like that because of something that was recalled. (can't remember exactly what, but he said about 100,000 of those little parts were recalled from a lot of the Saturns in 96.) (EDIT: I just remembered what it was, a sensor that told the tranny it was in reverse and to make the driveshaft spin. It had a delayed reaction that got recalled. The original owner never got it replased, and when I got the car in 2003 the dealship said they didn't replace it because Saturn was no longer reembursting the dealerships for the labor they spent on it. So I got the price knocked down another $2000...)
The first machanic called be back a few days later, asking if I would be bringing my car in because it could be dangerous if I hit something backing up. I told him what I found out and he just back peddeled his way out and didn't call me back when he said he would. I was going to get whatever was wrong fixed, and while he was in the tranny, get him to install a shift kit. So he lost about $3k of business for making up a reason for it to happen. That's why I say that second opinions keep machanics honest!

Dude thanks, but that was way too much for me to read! I've got a major brain problem that limits my reading, no joke!! I wish I could joke tough! I got out of that get a second opinion!
I only trust this guy to even look @ my car! I live in a tiny town and most are jokes! My guy is really an exhaust guy, but does my mechanical stuff. I have lived a hard life where I cannot trust a lot of folks!! I love my car, so I can stomach this guy who works on my car. Thanks though!!!

I bought a new shifter from UPR and finally had it installed today! My mechanic did that and seen about the button prob. He said there was no cable, instead something about a switch that controlled when you pressed the brake. He fooled around with it some and figured out my car's prob. You know how you have to press the brake when you shift out of park? If the brake it all the floor, it will not release. You have to barely press the brake to release the button. Now I just have to remember how to get it working.
Oh yeah, I got my problem fixed! One night I was putting her away for the night and I saw my brake lights weren’t working! They worked but only when I barely pressed the pedal. I took her to the shop 1st thing the next morning! On the brake pedal switch, the wires were coming undone. He connected them back up and it fixed all my problems!! Shifter and lights, I mean. See ya!!
