I just recently bought 2002 mustang gt and i was really interested in putting a shaker scoop on it. In reading about them im pretty sure it will make a difference but is the increase in power significant and is it worth the $1,000 or is the 4.6 V8 enough?

I think your $1000 would be better spent on other performance mods. And that black Hood Appliqué never seems to fit right.

If you are thinking about the Shaker as a performance mod, forget it. The 1-3 hp gain isn't worth the 800-1000 you'll ultimately spend installing it. You'll get a lot more bang for the buck doing the standard gears/chip/pulleys/K&N for that 1k.

If you're looking at style though, and are happy with the performance you already have, then the shaker is a great addition. I personally love it and really, really want to put one on my 98 vert. Unfortunately, as Brad pointed out, the applique sticks out like a sore thumb. Painting it to blend in with the cars color would help, as would painting the entire hood and applique black, but that's more work/money.

It's your decision though: form or function?

if you are gonna go with the shaker just forget CDC and go with KarKraft. Thiers is all factory parts. All you have to do is get a Mach 1 hood.. And those aren't that expensive.

I thought CDC designed the one Ford uses.

yes they did but for what ever reason thier system is vastely different from the actual Ford parts. The factory one is a far nicer exicution that that hunk of garbage cdc sells.
The biggest difference btween the two is the "Lower scoop". The part that attaches to the brackets and creates the seal under the hood. CDC has a riser plate and make for a nastier apperance under the hood. KarKrafts looks exactly like the Mach1 when istalled.

you can see the difference in these two pics

I think that the shaker is super cool but there are a lot of other things you can do with your $1000 that may be better investments.

The CDC shaker was the inspiration for the actual Ford version. Ford engineers designed their own parts. I was given this information prior to buying the car by people who worked on the engine modifications. The scoops might be the same, but the other parts, especially as illustrated in the photos above, are different.
