I am finally getting my vacation. I fly from Iceland to Boise Idaho tomorrow morning. I have the 97GT scheduled for service at the local dealer there. They freaked that they got a call from Iceland, too funny. I'll hit the road on Tuesday and make the road trip to Norfolk. If you see a car like mine flash your lights, unless you are an officer of the law. I will be going through Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tenn (Doris/Jeffrey DJ Land), and into Virginia.
I'm thinking about running the 1/4 mile in Bristol while I'm there for Fun Ford Weekend. Just for an idea of where I sit with my current mods.
Any tips on doing the 1/4 mile with an automatic?

Cool, sounds like a great trip!
As far as 1/4mi with an auto, launch off idle and just floor it! Leave the car in D the whole time with o/d off

I'm not sure when I'm going to hit Nashville, if you want email your number and I'll give you a call when I get an idea. With the time change (I'm four hours ahead of the east coast) I don't know how my driving style is going to be. I'm trying for a 600-700 mile a day goal.

Bummer deal man. I'll let you all know how it runs. I won't do it too much since I still need to drive it another few hundred miles after the 1/4 mile.

Well, I'm in Knoxville TN. Tomorrow is Bristol and Fun Ford Weekend. I'll take pictures. Detailed the car today (missed doing that) and it looks sweet after close to 2,000 miles. I'm on the hotel computer. Gotta love it. Talk to you all later.
Anyone else going to Bristol?

I made it to Virginia Beach and had a great time at the Fun Ford Weekend in Bristol. Lots of nice cars and some great drag racing. When I get back to Iceland on Saturday I will send in the pictures, I'm on a friends computer. I met some great people at the event. Mustang owners are the best.

Your trip sounds like 2-3 full days of driving at least. But now that the highways have faster limits so who knows. B)
I once made the trip from Ft Hood Texas to Erie PA in 24 hours. It was 1981 and I slept 4 hours as part of that trip too. My average speed was 68 mph, even with 4 hours going zero.
Took me forever, or so it seemed to me, to get out of Texas, one big state.
The scary part of that trip was Tennessee and Kentucky.
Yep I was young and stupid, ran from the cops in Cincinnati, got away too.
Would I do it again. Nope.

I went through Kentucky and Tennesse and the roads were smooth as glass. From Ogden Utah to N. Platte Nebraska I "averaged" 75mph. Crazy. The next day it was N. Platte to Mt. Vernon IL. Crap roads most of the way.
Oh, forgot to mention that I got a top 20 award at the show. People couldn't believe my car just completed a road trip of 2000 miles. It was probably the cleanest the car has ever been, I spent 6 hours detailing it in Knoxville the day before the show.

Okay, I'm back in Iceland and the Mustang is safe and sound in Virginia Beach. I have pictures from the Fun Ford weekend in Bristol but I don't know how to post them. If you see this Brad what advise could you give?
