Rear Diff

my rear diff is making a like a grinding noise almost like a slipping clutch. i just changed the gear oil in it. i read somewhere that you have to put a friction additive in it and i did not have any because im over seas, i ordered some through amsoil. but would that cause the rear end to slip. its a limited slip rear end. thank all of you for all the help..

You can get the friction additive at a Ford dealership. But any noise from the rear end is bad news. Did you find any metal in the oil when you changed it?

Tony,

Where are you in the UK? I might be able to point you in the right direction to a decent specialist?

I know that there is a "fix" additive that you can use, I will try to dig it out. Other than that, if the problem gets no worse, fine, if it does, it is a £200 plus labour to get the diff reconditioned. There are even giys here that hold recon'd diffs in stock and you just swap the "core".

Cheers

James (Manchester)
