I'm looking into the possibility of buying a 1999 Ford Mustang GT. It has 83k on it. I know that the 4.6Ls last a really long time in the Crown Vics. My question is: Does that translate over into the Mustang as well? Is the engine just getting warmed up with that kind of mileage?

I have 130k on my '96 4v motor and its still running great. I've seen hard core drag racers with 130k miles on their stock motor running 12's and still use the car as a daily driver. I think the motors are very reliable, but again, there are always flukes out there and something could let go at anytime

From what I hear, these engines are very strong. Check edmunds.com. They have consumer reviews on there. 83k isn't that bad for a '99. its a little above average mileage. (6 years x 12k per year= 72k average).
If the car was well maintained I don't think you'll have a problem. Have a mechanic check it out before purchase though just to be sure.

yeah, they are very good motors aslong as the previous owner took care of it. most motors fail b/c of neglect. id say have a mechanic take a look. or even take it for a spin and run by an advance auto or autozone and have them hook up their code puller and see if it gets anything
