possibly the most retarded thing i have ever asked
ok, i am the first to admit, i dont know all that much about cars and parts. i have been reading up quite a bit an dmesing around on some junkers here and there to get a basic grasp on alot of things.
especially since i kep buying parts to mod my 01 gt with. i am not going to do the work myslef, i will be helping, but mostly just doing what the guy installing my gears (3.90) and exhaust tell's me too.
my problem, and this is going to sound really stupid, is i bought 3.90's for my automatic mustang gt. i got them today. well, i think lol. i only got one. do i need two? i thought they came in a set but i guess not, i thought there was a gear for each side of the rear end.
any comments would be appreciated.
and please, be gentle

I am not a car expert, but I am pretty sure that all you need is the one main gear.

The big blue gear in the animation should be the only one you change. Hope this helps.

Then that is all you need as long as you got the "Ring" gear and the Pinion Gear.
Also since your car is an 01 automatic, you will have to have a chip burned to correct the speedo for the gear change. Along with this, you can also get better shift points and feel for your tranny and some increased power from a/f adjustments and increased timing.
Doug904 on this board does a really great job with the SCT chips. I highly recommend him. His site is http://www.bamachips.com
