Possible Solutions?...
#1
I've posted this on other forums, but no one seems to be willing to really help me. Also I'm not a mechanic, but can and will do somethings on my own.
I've got a 96' Cobra that was running great untill last weekend. While I'm driving the car normally, not pushing it like I tend to do at times, it runs pretty good until around 3k RPMs then it will bog down really bad. If I really give it some gas it seems even worse through out the entire RPM range. What would be a few things that I need to check for?
Thanks

Ahh the fun of a 96. I've been through a few problems similar in mine.
First thing to check is the plugs and wires. They are easy and under $100 to replace, if you car has miles on it, it wouldnt hurt to replace anyways.
Secondly, whens the last time you changed fuel filters? Something you may want to do is have a tuner in your area hook a datalogger up and watch all the stats. Fuel pressure and others.
third, this is the fun one... IMRC controller may be going bad. Basically what this does is at 3250rpms, the controller pulls 2 cables, and opens up butterfly plates, allowing air into the secondary intake valves. This is what makes the 96-98 4v's scream up top. Below 3250, this plate is closed, therefore helping create more low end trq.
Its hard to tell if the IMRC controller is going bad, but one way is to trace from behind hte intake, you will see the 2 cables coming out of the center under the intake, then going up and back down to the inside edge of each head. 1 cable going to each side. Hold onto one of the cables and have someone in the car rev the car over 3200 rpms (say 3500) and see if you feel those move or twitch. They should.
Another way to find out if its the IMRC's, put the car on the dyno and just watch. Mine the power curve looked like an EKG graph and just feel on its face. It sounds alot like hte problems you are having.
If this is the problem, you will have to get hte part from ford and replace it yourself. You have to pull the entire intake off and the IMRC controller is bolted to the bottom of the lower intake. At the same time, this is a good time to clean up the intake with carb cleaner, also the IMRC plates themselves.
