Is it possible?

Is it possible to swap a 5.0 into a 99+ car.

I'm assuming you'd need: engine mounts, possible fuel pump, new transmission, wiring harness, new face gauges(for the redline).

Would power steering, O2 sensors, oil pan, or A/c be affected?

Ahh....I guess headers and exhaust would need to be changes also.

The reason I ask, is I'm looking into a 2nd car and I'm pretty much set that I want to work with a 5.0. However everytime I see the 99+ body in the mags......I lean the other way. I know it's possible to do a 5.0 in the 96-98's, but I'm curious on 99+

I'm not an expert, so that's why I'm asking in advance.

Thanks!

i've seen a few 99+ stangs in magazines and online with 5.0's in em, they were heavily invested into though, not sure it its easily done, im not the best when it comes to the technicals. i wanted the 5.0, but also wanted the newer styling (dont get me wrong i love fox bodies too my first car was a 90 GT) so i ended up buying a 95 GT, the best of both worlds

Exactly.......I was mentally committed to a 94-95 5.0 Stang, but the looks of the 99+ are weighing in on me. There's just something intriguing about the 5.0 to me. I think cause it's a classic engine and the parts are so cheap, and can be found almost anywhere.

I liked the 94-95's for the same reason as you did.

it can be done. i saw it in MM&FF. they guy got tired of his mod motor breaking....twice! so he took a 5.0 n put it in. but yeah, you will need the engine mounts and stuff. i'd assume nearly everything would have to be changed...

the only thing that i think poses a problem is cost. its not exactly cheap to get nearly everything engine related in the car changed...

man that was a cool car though. it was kinda like grabber blue but a bit lighter

but hey, let me know if you decide to do it, i wanna see it

I would love to drop a 5.0 in my '03 v6 someday when the ol' 3.8's worn out, but it's just a lot of custom fabbing to do with the engine compartment and changing the entire front suspension to get the thing in there. I think its just a lot easier to go with the 94-95. Like Meztio said, the best of both worlds!

Muzzy, that's what my thinking was also. It'd be easier to drop it into a v6 over a GT for the following reasons.

V6's are cheaper for the body. The rear end, fuel pump, wiring harness, and transmission would probably end up needing to be changed regardless. Eventually they'd probably end up being changed either way.

The 94-98 exhaust cut-outs might be too small for the 01+ GT cut-outs. If I bought a GT, that would be an extra $200 for a v6 bumper.

Of course if you went with a GT people would ask why you sacraficed a 260hp mod. engine for a 225hp pushrod one.

you can't. a V8 car must have a V8 vinn code to pass emissions here in NY

Hmmmm.....then it really becomes an issue of.....what does the state allow more than a yes/no question.

However I hear Texas, is getting more and more strict.

It was just an idea, that popped up while at a bookstore looking at Stang mags.

No, not against the 94-95s at all. Like I said, I was in the bookstore Friday night, and it just popped up.

It seems that the project would be really involved, and would require a "lump" sum of money than piece by piece.

Meaning the engine, headers, intake, exhaust, etc would all have to be changed at once. Rather than buying headers one month, then exhaust, etc.

However after reading that article, the guy is from Texas, and the shop that did the rewiring was also.

I just thought it would be creative and different.

too much work to swap the 5.0 into a 99+ you are talking about cost of parts. all the special fabrication will cost you much more than the performance parts for the 4.6L. though you would have something different. not trying to blow your idea out of the water. work is what hot rodding is all about!

I'm planning on looking later this year, and going to buy around next Spring. I wanted a used car for under 10K.......it's a 2nd car, not a daily driver.

A Mach1 doesn't fit that(for me at least).......however I'm not opposed to a test drive.

Yea, but you're probably right. By the time I get a v6 do the swap etc etc.......they'll change the law saying my car is illegal...knowing my luck. :bang:

I think a v8 is the safest way to go. I need to double check Texas' laws on this kind of thing........I guess I know what I'll be doing next weekend.

If I can put any engine in my car......sign me up for a 5.0 Cammer engine. It's .......15K? Put me on the waiting list.
