After alot of debate, (the voices in my head ) and I have decided to keep my car because it runs great and it's almost paid off, three more months. I will need to do a few things and I would like some advice from others that have been through this. I am going to get the carpet replaced, seats redone (black and gray cloth), and will get it repainted the same color. Any advice on how yours turned out and cost would be appreciated. I figure I would end up paying $8000 - $10,000 difference buying a used 02 or 03 and all the stuff I've done to my car would be about another $1000 or more to do to a new Mustang. I'm sure some classic Mustang owners have been through this too. Thanks.

You might get away with the mid to high $2K for doing what you have in mind, but you might be sacrificing quality and satisfaction. The carpet you can do yourself. The seats, you need to rely on a professional for the proper fit (heating and/or stretching is a must, or wrinkles galore will decorate your seats). The paint is the life of your sight everytime you look at the car. I would think $4K+ might be closer for it to include a good paint job. The positive is no car payments. Best of luck.

I was thinking about the $4K range also. I'm prepared for that. My little two door explorer here is paid off and in Iceland I can get a good $7K for it when I leave in December, everyone wants a 4x4 at that time around here . I don't want or think I'll need to spend all that money on the car. I won't do the work myself, I like having others do it, support the economy and all. I forgot to add used car interest onto that $8K or more difference for a used newer GT. If I got the Mach 1 like I was thinking.....$15K or more. 97 GT looking brand new inside and out plus my mods already on the car and no car payments sounds good to me. Thanks George.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Can't wait to see pics of her when she's all done

It's really hard not wanting to just buy an 01 or 02 GT to take care of the paint job issue and the other little stuff but all the stuff I've done to mine would take alot of money and time to do to a new car if I bought one. I just need to find a good body shop/custom shop in the Norfolk Virginia area. I always hear horror stories about how non-factory paint jobs can't hold a candle to the factory ones.
