I have a 03 /Cobra that I am still using the factory type motorcraft 5w20 in. On all my other cars I use Mobil 1.

I would like to find an oil that might help take away some of the knock from the motor when it idles in the drive-thru.

I dont really drive this car much so which would I use to help preserve the engine when it sits for a week or two between use.

I use Mobil 1

I've seen/read a lot of people w/the 03 & 04 Cobras use the following:
Amsoil 0w30 Series 2000
Amsoil 5w30
NEO
Motul Ester 300
Red Line 5w30 or 5w20

Some also have used Royal Purple, but from recent reviews many people are suggesting to stay away from it because of a high sulfer count.

Good Luck.

Mobil1 5w30.. i've acctaully considered going to the motorcraft 5w20 syn-blend mainly cause of price. About a 1/4th of the price of mobil1

I always use Mobil 1 also. I live by it after an unfortunate incident of driving 120 miles with no oil in the car. And my temp never went above the half way mark on the gauge.

i agree mobil 1, my dad worked with the peopl who designed it and he's told me he's seen it tested on engines to see how long they could last without a change and they could just run forever i wouldnt trust anything else

I use to run red line in all my supercharged cars, but I really never saw the benefits of the price.

Thank you for all your input.

Supposedly many oil patents come from just a company or two (guessign Exxon, Mobile, however the whole subsidiary thing goes).

They are probably not too different since oil isn't exactly a new thing. My relatives from Poland are all nit-picky for no good reason and HAVE to buy Sony electronics -- no Samsung or Toshiba for them, lol.

... that might help take away some of the knock from the motor when it idles in the drive-thru.

A Borla exhaust will take care of that minor nuisance right away, and the additional hp is free.

Ford 5w30 Syn Blend. SVT recommend.

The noise you are hearing is most likely piston slap. Its when your pistons haven't warmed up enough to expand. Hypercast pistons do not have this problem, but they are also weaker.
