Noises under hood

Noises under hood
Greetings all, I'm the proud owner of a 98 gt. All is well except for one thing. The noises that come from under the hood. At stop lights I become car conscious when I can hear my car making sounds. I took it to a shop when I first got it and the mechanic said it might be a lifter problem. But I don't think it's the lifter alone. Sometimes I hear squeaking, hissing etc.. Any suggestions on what steps I can take to ensure all is well. It was a gift from my cousin who is serving over seas.

Please provide as much of the following as you can as this will help us assist you in locating a good diagnosis
How many miles on the car/engine:
when was the last service done?
Knowing its from your cousin do you know its service history?
Pics of the car?? (more for enjoyment)
engine combination? (1998 Mustang GT with which engine)
Perhaps a video of the car making the noise(s)? (for those of us able to hear things like that)
any mods done to this car?? (this will be kinda important as certain mods could possibly change behaviors of the car and introduce different sounds)
having this info while not all required will allow us to better assist with finding the possible issues as different engines will like to (generally) have different types of issues at various mileage points)
Oh and before I forget welcome to the SN-95 section of the forums, you will get many years (and smiles) out of your Mustang

Thanks for the welcome!! As far as I know everything on the car is stock. However I can tell that it has a cold air intake that he put in, and the pipes were custom made (h pipes). I will try and take pics and videos of everything you asked for
