They allow finer adjustment of the wheel's alignment and are pretty important if you have a noticeably lowered car. Sometimes it hard to get the car aligned within spec without them if its been lowered.

I installed mine when I also installed rear coilovers. I wish I could tell you exactly how much of the results were due to the STB, because I can't, but I have definitely noticed a lot less twitchiness at the back end. I don't know how noticable it is on nice roads, but its very comforting on the crappy roads I drive on. They're also pretty cheap, and chassis rigidity is always a nice thing to improve upon.

Evil_Capri runs one as well without coilovers, might also want to PM him and ask about his impressions
