Is it a pi motor? If not that would be one of the first things I would do.

Indeed, how far are you planning to go with your crate motor?

If its a non PI motor, PI heads are a great swap, better heads plus a bump in compression.

Do the pi swap. All the other bolt ons won't get you to your goal. Pi swap will get you to around 260hp and it will respond better to the bolt on mods.

I had the PI motor in my 02 and i added a 75mm throttle body, k&n CAI, borla stinger catbacks, mac prochamber midpipe, and 3.73 gears. Dynoed it once before and after i installed a bama tune. Sadly i dont have the file for it because it was saved on my flash drive that i got caught in the rain with. I believe it was right around 310-315 though

PI swap on a 98 actually gives more like 270-275 do to slightly higher compression that that happens on the 96-98. So with all the boltons he could possibly reach his 325hp goal. Through in a cam or long tubes to the above list and he should be good.
