for mach 1 owners
im getting a new car next year and am deciding between an 05 Gt or a 03-04 mach 1 for those of you who own it can you tell me things you like and dislike about your car it will have to be my daily driver even in the winter
Charles, I love my car. Fortunately though, I don't drive it in the winter I imagine it wouldn't be too good in the winter when it snows. I have a 4WD beater I just got for $1800. You might want to consider one for when it gets nasty out. It will keep your Mach 1 looking nice, and give you peace of mind when it snows.
Now, about the mach 1, the worst thing I can point out is that the power is addictive, and you'll find yourself staring at the shaker at stoplights.

To me it is the highest pinnacle that I being a "Fox" lover can go. Notwithstanding the Cobras', but I like the 'straight' axle and the plethora of mods that can be added. Of course the 03-04 Cobra is superior in performance, and the '05 is more sophisticated, but I like the Mach for is "simplicity", and some might say archaic manner.
It's all good . . all the time!
However whatever you choose, I don't think you will be disappointed.

The Mach 1 is the best all around Mustang ever, specially when the price/features combo is considered. The '05 GT will be a great car but it is still a step behind the special edition Mach 1. It is a blast to drive. You be surprised of the feeling a driver gets with the presence of the shaker.
At this point being so late in the game I'd personally just wait for an 05+ GT if I were u, same performance but all new everywhere else. Mach 1 is awesome though and it's what the GT should have been the last couple of years. DOHC 4 valve is to die for, I like the looks better then 05 (save for the Cervini Eleanor kit), Special Edition heritage, price and the availability of aftermarket parts is why I choose to upgrade my '02 GT last year to a Mach instead of waiting for a new '05.

Machs are sweet, if you want alot from it power ise, get a 04 cobra motor and add the shaker too it and bolt it in your car. I dunno if i want a 03 sonic, black or 04 comp orange cobra, or a comp mach with a shakerized cobra motor......
yeah, putting a shaker on the 03 cobra motor seems like a pretty big deal and more work than its worth since they add virtually no power. My engine bay doesnt have a whole lot of room in there, and the 03 hood is one of the coolest ever made.

I guess it would be OK on a vert with the top down and an elevated driver's seat.

Likes:
1) shaker scoop
2) DOHC power/torque without forced induction
3) exclusivity
4) azure blue color
5) retro seats
Dislikes:
1) body structure as compared to S197 Mustang
2) paid MSRP to be the first on the block (thought it would only be produced in 2003)
This is the first Mustang that I plan to keep for awhile. It really is a lot of fun. I've driven the '05 GT, and as much as I enjoyed that, I have not regretted getting it. I recently added an aftermarket exhaust and lowering springs, which has renewed the love affair.
That said, I am waiting to see what special edition S197 Mustangs will appear in the future. I plan to ADD to the collection (finances permitting).
I do drive this car in the snow, as long as the depth is 5 inches or less. I use all-season high performance tires as a compromise to do that. We get limited snow in Cincinnati. If we had more, I would buy an extra set of wheels to mount snow tires to use in winter.

not trying to be a *****, but this is awful farfetched. I guess if you like the shaker obstructing your view than that would be fine. The only way i can think is to use a centrifiugal SC.

Given the opportunity to work with the engineers on the Mach 1 project, I can't honestly think of much I would have changed about it. Maybe I would have opted for a different FE than the GT one, but whats not to love about a 2 production year limited edition muscle car? Perhaps the best Fox-4 Mustang built!?
