Mach 1 Info
Hello all, how are you guys doing? I haven been on here in a while, been really busy with work. Anyhow, getting to the point.
I have found an 04 Comp. Orange Mach 1 with under 9,000 miles on it from a dealer round here. I test drove it yesterday and am thinking about trading in my 95 GT, (dealer went insane and said he would give me 7,000 for it), and going for the Mach 1.
I just have a couple questions about Mach 1's and I know there are some Mach 1 owners out there. When I drove it, I noticed that the idle was set down around 550 or 600 rpms, is this normal? A pretty car savvy friend told me that sometimes when you changes pulleys, it lowers your idling rpm, any truth to this?
Another thing I noticed a little front end noise, not really loud, but I could hear it. It sounded like a stiff bushing from a car that had been sitting for a while, the dealer said it had been on the lot for a while. I didn't say anything to the sales guy about it though. Anyone think this should be of concern?
Finally, this one is for Mach 1 owners, how do you like them? Are they good reliable cars? How is the gas mileage? Any special things to look at on the car, like tell-tail signs of a wreck. I looked over the car good and didn't see any obvious sign of collisions. Thanks for you alls time and if all goes well, I should be able to get her tomorrow or Monday.
Oh yea, heres a picture of the car.

Ok, I've had my '04 Mach for 7 mos. now, the only problem I've had has been a steering rack bushing noise that there is a TSB out for. Other than that I've been driving and enjoying, 12K miles so far.
Now to your car, being in sales as I am, ask your sales rep. if they are actually giving you $7K for your car or is that the trade allowance. Trade allowance is what they show you and you think that's what they're actually giving you but it's really the allowance for your car plus whatever they might be discounting it. Now, if they give you $7K plus discount their car you're doing ok. You don't say what they're asking for it, but the last time I checked wholesale on mine it was around $19K, so I'd say they aren't holding too good of a resale value right now. Looking on the Mach 1 Registry at www.mach1registry.com and look in the forums for sale section and see what they're going for and that will give some info to talk to your salesperson with.
Good luck and if you buy it, enjoy it. They're meant to be driven.

I like the comp orange 04 cobras to. They seem to be rare.

Also, two more questions about the Mach 1's.
1. Anyone know what gears are in the rear-end, 3.10's or 3.73's?
2. Awweee... crap, i forgot. Will post it when i think of it.

orange cobras r very rare... 72 convertibles and 281 coupes. even more rare than the fugly mystichrome....i dont like it because its not a true color..imo also if yo decide to get the mach 1.. get some bullit rims for it because ford has some of the coolest cars and decide to put the ugliest rims on them on there cars
I would say if you can swing it, do it! Only built 2 years and last of the Fox-4 cars. I love mine and it sits next to a S3 Roush in the garage. I really have to think hard about which one to drive, its that good.
I even prefer the Mach 1 to the same vintage Cobra, looks baby, looks! It reeks of heritage and ties in well to the original.
Problems? Shaker rattle happens, no biggie
Steering rack? some do
Passenger seat rub? Just unbolt the seat and scoot it over a bit.
The dreaded head tick? I have not had it, some guys have....your '04 should have the revised heads.
Whats not to like about the '03/'04 Mach 1's? I might even go as far to say that its my favorite '94-'04 Mustang ever!
