Check junk yards. Why do you want an auto btw?

There were very few auto Mach 1s made (only 1943 made in 2003 and even less the next year), so your odds of finding a junked one are very low. Try to find out which auto trans was used in it, as it may have just been the same as the one in the Mustang GT. If so, you can find a used or rebuilt GT auto trans pretty easily.

well dynospeed in memphis is doing swap for us.. they told us the mach tranny was beefed up compared to the GT.. they are the same trans just machs are built a little better to hold the higher power the machs have.
A GT trans will work for a while but before i did a LOT of mods i would have to go back in a do some building for it to hold.
As for why i want an auto in a cobra. I cant drive a stick... and my husbands HATES sticks. Soooo why not an auto...they are way better for racing IMHO

I could have sworn it was the same 4r70w used in 99+ Gt's. Ive seen plenty of high HP cars using that tranny with some precautionary mods (Jerry mod from tccoa.com, tranny cooler etc)

I agree with mudshuvel, use a GT tranny and beef it up yourself.

yeaaah but see im gonna be pushing it by selling my 05 all my mod money off the 05 when the parts sell are going into tranny swap. Im trying to do as much as i can for as cheap as i can. But i do know im doing a tranny cooler and a stall.
Any suggestions on what to do to beef up a GT tranny..like best bang for the buck? I know motors pretty good...but not much on transmissions.

Alot of people used to swear by the "Jerry Mod" which was done by Jerry W. who worked at ford and is now with SCT. He is the designer of the tranny I believe and also did most of the tune engineering at ford. The jerry mod was basically modifiying the stock valve body and plate to increase pressure safely and also made it more reliable and effecient. Check out www.tccoa.com for some info on it in thier tech sections. I know there were some tuners who speacialized in doing this as well. They would even ship you out a modded valve body and you send them yours back as the core. Its been a few years, but I think Dennis Reinhart of Reinhart Racing used to do it.

Since you're going with an auto, get a shift kit installed. It make your tranny shift harder, a friend of mine got one installed and his 1/4 time dropped close to a half of a second. It can get alittle expensive, as sometimes the tranny has to be rebuilt.
The Jerry Mod might not work in conjunction with it though, I brought this subject up once before and cna't remember if it would or not. Scothew would be able to tell you though. I think he replaced his blood with oil...

Good luck with the 03. Hope its a good car. It'll be nice to be able to buy it outright once you sell your 05.

Usually if you mod your car, it's best to not have a loan at all.

That seems a bit high for a 03 Mach 1... I could have bought an 04 Cobra for $28,500, hardtop, yellow, with the pullies already installed. (I decided against it since I would have to finance an extra $15,000, easier to convince the wife to let me build an old car rather than buy a new one.)

I think it's a cobra that was $25,000. She justs want the trans out of a Mach 1 because they didnt come with Cobras.

^ yup mudshuvel is correct. Im trying to gather the parts for the swap before i get the cobra..that way i can have it done ASAP.... but my fiance swears im driving it as a stick for a while lol ::bangs head on wall::: i can hardly pay attention driving a auto!! lol Oh well anything for a cobra!!!

Oh as for the difference in the trans. A GT tranny i will have to shift through the gears manualy.. a mach tranny will automatically shift them out itsself... thats what the guy told paul... i dunno makes no sense to me.. but then again i dont know crap about transmissions..just motors and some mods and most stangs in general... not bad for a girl huh?? lol

That makes no sense to me either. I've driven both cars and even owned a 2000 gt automatic.. you can put either in drive and just go, the tranny/computer takes care of everything for you.

I think that guy is trying to you into spending more money... Do what Scothew said, get a GT tranny with a J-mod. We never quest him anymore... bad things happen when you do that...

hey guys jsut got back online. We talked to a buddy at ford that owes a favor.. he said he can get me a mach 1 tranny for $1500 at his cost...3 year 36,000 mile warranty.. and get me a computer for $500.. so i think i may just go that route. Used trannys have no warranty lol

- magnaflow exhaust systems

Available in varous diameters including 2.25", 2.5" and 3" and backed MagnaFlow's Lifetime Warranty, there's no reason to go any other route. Be sure to include a set of polished MagnaFlow performance mufflers to finish that truly one-off exhaust system.

I have been shopping around on the magnaflow site and can't seem to find any videos. Anyone got a link to one.
