Thumbs up

alright, i was on Ebay (again) and i was looking at a 95 cobra R ( ) and i was wondering, how much work would be required to take a regular old 94-95 mustang GT's 5.0 and switch it out for a 351W? i really wanna know how hard it is, cuz, i dunno, i kinda wanna do it. but i wanna get my facts straight before i seriously think about it. what would be involved? what parts would i need, aside from a spare 351W? give me all the important details that a overzealous teenager is bound to have overlooked...

also, would it be better to start with a 3.8 or a 5.0. i assumed 5.0 would be better cyz the 5.0 and 5.8 are pretty similar from what i hear.

i love the idea of having my own personal Cobra R, minus the lack of rear seats, insulation, high price tag etc. it'd be a good compromise....

thx to all who help.

MAN! i want to do this bad now that i think about it. especially cuz a 95 GT is not anywhere near expensive....

5.0 would have a better suspension from the factory, leaving u more to work with and i am assuming that since the 94-95 computer is so touchy u will need one from an 89. u will need a cowl hood, the stock hood wont clear the higher deck height of the 351W...thats all i could think of, good luck

thx. i already knew the cowl hood part, but im not sure if ill go with a flat out cowl scoop or a cobra R hood

i dont get why an 89 computer would be better than a 95 though... care to explain? or maybe one from a 351W equipped truck? hmmm any experts wanna shed some light?

94-95 computer will activate check engine light, cause many problems, and will also cause the car to run poor when minor mods are done, theirfore a older computer would be much better as it wouldnt do that. u ever hear about what a pos the 94-95 ocmputer is?

uhhh... no?

in that respect, wouldnt it be better to take the computer from the donor vehicle? like if a took the 351W out of a wrecked bronco, why not take the computer too?

besides the check engine light, what ielse sucsk? if thats all, then i dont really care

Ok first your going down the wrong path. If you swapped a 5.0 for a 351 in a 94-95 the computer would be fine. Your just adding displacement. Which the stock computer can account for. As long as it is not supercharged or a very and I mean very radical cam. You can use the front accessory brackets from the 94-95 or the fox body ones(which ever you prefer, just need a londer belt). You will need to get the oil pan kit from Ford motorsport (110 bucks) to fit the stang and it includes new dipstick tube. Swap headers. Intake is specific to each motor. Also, the motors are balanced different. Which means different flywheel and balancer for the 351. Transmissions for the 94-95 will work. And no, you can not use the computer out of a donor 351 vehicle. It doesn't work that way. If you would really like to know how to do this, pm me. I can list all the parts and give you some ideas of good way to go about this. Also, the computer will not throw a MIL light just cause you put a 351 in.

i have heard so many horror stories about the 94-95 cars idling horribly and rnning crapy and with minor mods totally screwing up the computer, is this all true then or is it just exagerations? I always thought they were pure junk??
