My 02 Gt Convert has about 29,000 miles on it. I just got it back on Thursday after being fixed from an accident. Now all of a sudden the car seems to be surging at more that 50% throttle. Especially in higher gears, it feels as though there might be something wrong with the coil packs or maybe the injectors. The reason I think it is the coil packs is that it feels the same as my 99 GT did when I had to replace the coil packs. But the Local service department refuses to even work on the car under any sort of warranty because I took off the cats. They said I have to pay for them to diagnose the problem and if its not due to the removal of the cats then I don't have to pay for it. But they are saying that no matter what they think its because of the cats and probably wont warranty it. Is this something that could be caused by the fact there are no Cats? Also is it something that would just show up almost 1 year after I took the cats off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Its not from you not having cats. What specifically was repaired on the car? Pull the codes from the computer and get back here with em. We'll take it from there.

Hey Swish, I have that EXACT problem with my car. Also I just checked my check engine light and it said I had a cylinder 2 misfire. I am also thinking that it has to do with the coil packs. I am probably going to Ford tomorrow to get it diagnosed and I will try to fix the problem myself.

Alright, I am going to try to see about getting the codes checked. Can any dealer do that or only Ford? As i work at a toyota dealer, i may be able to get it done today. I will let you know. DFhurley, let me know what you hear from the dealer. My 99 did the same thing but not nearly as bad and it needed 3 new coils. Alrighty, well we will find out soon.

Yeah about any place can check your codes for you. Even auto zone. Almost all cars 96+ have the universal OBD II sensors to check the check engine lights. So get it checked and let me know what happens.
