Gorgeous day so I went buy a local dealer and ask to drive a Mach 1. Last time I drove it in the fall. Today, I had it with the windows down.

Man did this thing pull like an ANIMAL!! Lucky I had traction control on because even shifting into second the car wanted to side step. It didn't even feel this fast last time I drove it. (side note: I still babied this car, no burnouts, smooth shifting, etc.)

And my favorite part besides the neck-whipping power is the sound. If the 05 exhaust sounds that good stock, it'll stay. At idle there is little sound but open her up and it just roars.

I had a lot of fun. Now I want this 05 so bad.

Anyone who hasn't driven a 300hp mustang is in for a real shock. I drove a GT a few weeks ago and it didn't pull like the Mach 1.

I even had to think for a second when the salesman said "You know, I COULD get you a GREAT deal on a Mach 1 if you want" It is so hard to say no, but I did.

All I hope is that the 05 runs and sounds like the Mach.

I think it will too because the rear end is the same, the engine will have only slighly lower peak numbers and more torque down low and it weighs the same.

I've realized one thing driving mustangs in the last two years. I will never buy a car that doesn't have gobs of torque down low.

I encourage you both to give into the Dark Side. The Mach calls your name.

We can only hope your midichlorian count increases before the fall.

I'll stop now, before I give into the geekiness.

Pete, I urge you: DO NOT DRIVE ONE! I can't stop thinking about it.

My Probe sure felt weak after driving the Mach.

Steve, there are probably 6 Cobras sitting at Summit Ford right now. Only 1 or 2 Machs.

I'm sure you can get a Cobra for $40,000 + tax but its a lot of money and even with the 90hp (rated) difference, I really love the new car. If I didn't, I'd buy a Mach 1 in a second.

I can see why.

For me though, waiting at least two more years for a special edition or Cobra which will stretch me financially (probably will cost more than the Mach 1 now for sure) isn't where I'm at.

When we first started talking about the 05, my only wish was that it was Mach 1 quick. Assuming this is the case (I'm pretty confident), the 05 GT IS like a special edition as I was originally fine with the current GT's output.

I just don't see myself waiting 2 more years for a car that will be more expensive.

I sometimes wonder "Why not go for an 04 Cobra or 04 Mach 1?" The Mach is cool but the GT will be about as fast. The Cobra is a bargin but I can't bring myself to pass the 05 up.

I still wish Ford would tell us what they are planning for the next special edition. Just so I can make peace with my decision.

Dan, that exactly what I felt! I wanted something different though. The mach 1 was perfect, and price was too. The rebates are starting to go away on some models, and we may not have them around by the fall or next spring.

Not to mention, once you drove it, you start thinking about it incessantly....or maybe that was me.

If you really want the the 05, DON'T TAKE ANY MORE TEST DRIVES, or you'll be coming home with one. :nono:

I like my HyperDrives with big furry co-pilots. Not such a big fan of warp drives maintenanced by scottish decendants.

I sure way too much about this stuff ...

Ditto.

I decided I wanted something that wasn't going to be as prevelant as the standard 05 2 years from now. Once this one is paid off, I can go pick me out a nice 05, and I'll have the best of both worlds (and most likely the new stang I *REALLY* want -- which isn't a GT). Yes, the NEW GT will most likely perform almost equally with the Mach ... In fact give it two years and the GT will probably OUTPERFORM the current Mach. It's just the cycle.

But the Mach will always have a certain mystique (and the shaker) the 05 GT's won't have.

I say quit thinking about it, and quit driving it. Otherwise, the darkside will grab hold.
