It's not a cobra, just has a cobra front bumper. It started it's life as a v6. Traded my running 93gt for it as a roller.

Gonna be an all forged 331, with either a BIG bottle, turbo, or s/c. Sds engine management system. Full cage, Kenny brown extreme matrix kit, racing seats and harnesses. Cant decide on a tranny, it is a toss up at this point between a good C4, tko 3550, or g force t5. It came with a 8.8 auburn locker and 31 spline axles with 4.30 gears, but may get changed to 33 spline axles with a 9" outbound and 8.8 inbound, a spool, and 9" end housings and 3.73 gears (becuase nhra rules state that any car under 11 in the 1/4 have to have at some method for keeping the axles in should they break).
Once you get it to building a car from scratch there are a ton of freaking choices, and I dont want to go replacing stuff once the car is done (though I am sure some things will get replaced anyways).
If you want to run a drag car at nhra events, you get into a whole different barrel of monkeys because you have to make sure while building the car to adhere to thier regulations.
For example for a street car you can get a battery relocations kit and put it in your trunk. Nhra rules state that if the battery is in the trunk you have to either:
a) have a bulkhead between the cabin area and the battery (must meet sertain thickness and strenght requirements)
or
b)Have an nhra approved battery box (which the only one approved by nhra is a moroso box, at the tune of about $100 for just the box)

Wow Joker. You really have the plans in motion.
I must admit I don't know much about modifying engines but from what little knowledge I have this sounds like a great setup.
Did you happen to read the article on the 5.4 Mustang in the past months MM&FF? It was called "Finding car 5.4" I think. I thought you might find it interesting since you're putting a 331 in your Stang
Keep us posted on the progress

I saw that car that was in mM&FF at FFW when i went, the guy was running 12.20s at that event and i talked to him, he was a real nice guy. Joker, may i suggest a Twin T-60 Turbo set-up for your car? ![Big Grin](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Andy, I think u r confused, by a 331 he means a 5.0 stroker, a 5.4 is a 330

5.4 is a mod motor from my understanding, although I guess technically a 331 could be a 5.4 liter engine depending on pistons, heads and even head gasket size. I dont know the exact formula for determining cubic inches, but I know it depends on all those things plus your stroke.
If I do go with a turbo, Fordracing, it will be a single setup. There are people making close to and over 1000 rwhp with single turbo stangs out there and considering the lack of turbo kits out there for a sn95, the single is alot less trouble. The primary reason for going to a twin turbo is to reduce turbo lag by having a smaller turbo to help spool up the second, larger turbo. With a larger displacement motor, it would seem to me that there would be less of a lag time than a smaller ci motor would have. Alot of it has to do with your turbo build as well. Sure a 60 mm tells you the size, but from my understanding there are other factors that help determine how fast your turbo spools, as well as peak hp range. In other words, you can take two 60mm turbos, that are built differently and they can spool at different rates, and make different peak hp levels on the same engine setup. I am still very new at turbos though and definiltey dont claim to know everthing about them by any means.

The smaller the turbo, the quicker it spools, but a 331 isnt gonna be a big difference in spooling from a 5.0, like a T-88 on a 331 wont spool as fast as a T60 on a 302. The size still is normally a big factor in how fast it will spool. a Twin T-68 can make 1200rwhp on a prep'd motor, My uncle looked into it for his truck, he is converting his procharged 02 5.4 F-150 to a single and eventually a twin turbo. the 5.4 is a mod and the 302/331stroker is a pushrod motor. Most of us are new at the turbo thing, its a learning curve.

Yes, but here is a guy making 1177 rwhp on a carbed single turbo setup, no need for twins if one gets the job done.
LINK
As a matter of fact, alot of twin turbo supra owners end up ditching the twins for a large single. If built right a single will spool up quickly enough anyways.
