Ok,

I've been thinking of buying a second car.....a project car, of course. I had a few questions regarding engine swaps. I'm looking at getting a SN-95 GT, but I'm considering swapping the engine.

I know that the Mark VIII and the 96-98 Cobra have virtually the same engine(except: intake, exhaust cams, and crank). I was looking today, and it seems the Mach 1 and Mercury Marauder have a similar if not the same engine, correct?

I'm just wondering if there are any other engines that are similar or shared with the Mustang..........4.6-5.0L v8s of course. Continental? Town Car?

Also, would taking the path of placing a Lincoln/Mercury engine be better than buying a direct Mustang or Cobra engine? I know that upfront price goes down, but would aftermarket support be affected.

Lastly, which would have a higher insurance rate Mercury/Lincoln or Cobra/Mach 1?

Thanks!

Put a Navigator motor which is essentially a Cobra R motor in it.

01+ Crown Vic's use the same 4.6L as 99+ mustangs. Only difference is cams I believe and maybe the upper intake. Previous 4.6L crown vics used the 4.6L minus the PI heads/intake.

No its far from a cobra R. The R is a DOHC 5.4L, but its hand built, has completely forged internals, aluminum block. Also has custom designed cams in which you can not buy as well as a completely custom intake that ford will not cast anymore.

Similar. Both have a 4.6 4 valve. One has a shaker one doesnt. I dont think their are any more differences, if there is there are only a few.

There is a difference in the intake design (varied runner lengths between the 2) also there is a cam profile difference. Also the 5-speed mach1 motors have a forged 8bolt crank as where the auto cars have a 6-bolt cast crank.

Thanks for the info!

I figured the crank would be different. Any clue on which insurance rate would be higher?

Mercury engine or a Mach1 engine?
Lincoln Mark VIII engine or a Cobra engine?
