Deposits?

Just out of curiosity, how long do you think a dealer would hold an 04 mustang? I know no one will actually know the exact length of time, but how long do you think they will hold it through previous expiriences?

If you give them a deposit, they will hold it for a few days easily.
In my state, they don't have to give you back the deposit until they sell the car.
If they have another buyer, a week is about it.
If they don't, you might make a month before they wholesale it out.
They will do everything they can in the meantime to get you a loan and into the car.
If they know you can't be financed all bets are off.

Yeah the guy said he'd give me a week. I find a week to be a litle pointless, I was hoping for like 3 weeks.
I'll have no problems paying for the car.

In holding a car the dealer passes up potential buyers. Meaning if you don't take the car they have lost $$$$. It is poor business to hold any product especially when you are talking thousands of dollars. Remember that the dealers are paying floorplan, insurance, interest, etc to keep that car sitting on the lot. You are lucky they gave you a week. Most would say if you are truly interested you'd buy it in a few days.

What would you need more then a week for??

Well its not so much people are looking at this car, this guy litterally has no buyers. He didn't even try to BS me and tell me I have oher people looking at the car. That is why I decided to just see where it stands in a couple months with price. I think a week is pointless. I would think 2-3 weeks would be fair.

I see more then a week to get money together, take the (used) car to a mechanic, contact insurance company, ect.

Usually all that takes less then a day.

Pick up the car in the morning and take it to the mechanic.

In the mean time call your insurance company tell them your adding a vehicle and they can give you a confirmation in minutes. (or better do it online in even less time).

After calling your insurance, call your bank and give them the vehicle, the vin and the price. They can usually approve you over the phone and will fax the dealer your information.

Return to the mechanic and pick up the car and the status report.

Why would this take more then a week??

Having worked in both the used and new car business, customers like you are usually more of a headache then what it is worth. I don't mean that offensively or as a shot at you.

I agree with your plan though. If you don't HAVE to HAVE the car then wait it out and see what happens. with winter around the corner chances are the price will drop.

Good Luck!

Ehh the car sold lol. Ill probably just get it new since I've only seen one 2004 I liked. Oh and I knew from the first post you worked for a dealer. Id also want more then a week to see If I truely want the car and what not. Maybe a week is more then enough time I would just like to make sure this is what i want to do becuase it is a great deal of money to spend, I wouldnt want to waste it or anything. But anyway thanks for the info on deposits.

Sorry it didn't work our for you.

I haven't been in that business for almost a decade now, just couldn't stand it. But I learned a lot from the experiences, and how to deal with the dealer. Hope your search goes well!
