Crown Vic and Mustang GT same engine?
#1
Sorry to create a new thread but the topic needed to be specific.
Still looking for solutions for fixing my 2000 Mustang GT. A yard has a 1999 4.6 Crown Vic engine...... Is this a direct dropin for my Mustang GT? Is it the same?
Thanks.

I think they are the same block but different heads and cams and intake. I am not 100% sure of that so don't quote me. Ask Joker or SVOPaul, they would be able to help you for sure.

Thanks, I PMed them.
With all the 4.6 cars and variations, I am really a bit confused on what I can/should do.
If anyone has any solid info on this, please let me know because I need to get working on the car in the next few days. Again I have a 2000 Mustang GT, and it needs a new longblock. Thanks.

different ford models started receiving the PI intake and heads in different years. I don't know when the CV started using the PI stuff. so you'd want to make sure of that. Also the cam will be different. that's about all I know.

I dunno, as much as I like to bash the 4.6, Engine Masters had a stroker 2V engine with a stock intake making about 400 to 430 hp, not to shabby if you ask me.

I do not believe CV's started receiving PI intakes/heads untill 01. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is right.
The motor is basically the same, but it does have a different cam profile to give it a slightly better low end trq curve. Also off the top of my head, i think the air intake tubing (upper plenum and lower intake) is all different to have the filter on a different side of the car. You cna use the motor, but may have to find a mustang intake/plenum to make it easier.
