I recently got the steeda cat back installed on my 01 auto gt. nice sound. when it was up on the lift and i was watching them put it in, i noticed the other part of the exhaust (with the cat converters) looked like poo. all rusty looking. what is the proper name for this piece LOL? and if I get it replaced, should i go with the steeda brand since that is what the cat back is on there now?

also, i have motive 3.90 gears, nice punch to the car when you want it. a friend recommended i look into some brakes, he said they are gonna wear out alot more quickly with that gear ratio.

thanks for your help.

The exhaust piece with the CATS is called a h-pipe (in aftermarket there are replacement h & x pipes). You do not have to replace with a Steeda unit, it just depends on preference, as well as (depending on area you live) installing a h/x pipes with or without CATS.

As far as brakes you could install better pads (hawk), but you brakes shoudn't wear out any faster . . . unless you are driving much faster and hence using more brakes.

Yah, brakes wont wear out faster but better brakes are always great, 03 cobra units will be a great upgrade for your car and the pads and such are relatively cheap.
