As a performance minded enthusiast, is the stock Bullitt set-up a better starting point than a stock GT? Also, how does the stock Bullitt exhaust sound?

It is a slightly better starting point but not by much. The intake is the only real benefit as it can be ported and polished to alow more air flow.

The exhaust note is slightly different but its not much louder or anything than the stock. Just a tad deeper sounding. Its a good thing though

Lets just say the Bullitt's exhaust note puts the '03/'04 Cobras' stock exhaust to shame.

The bullitt also has better brakes and suspension than a stock GT.

Everyone knows the Bullitt is better than all stock GTs and is second only to the 03-04 Cobras.

The sound gets looks from regular GT drivers all the time. I should know, as it happens to me on a weekly basis. GT drivers assume I have a modded exhaust all the time until I explain to them that the Bullitt was more than just a GT with no spoiler...

BULLITTS ROCK!

Bullitts aren't drag racers...they're road racers. If you want to DRIVE your car the way a sportscar was meant to be driven, the Bullitt is WAAAY ahead of a GT. Consider these differences:

Intake, twin 57mm TB, underdrive pulleys, free-flowing exhaust - flatter torque curve for seat of the pants power

Tremec tranny, not a wimpy T5, Better first gear ratio, Bigger 11" stock clutch - gettting power to the ground

Factory Subframe connectors, 650lb springs, Tokico shocks, better swaybars - for the curves

13" Brembo brakes - no comment necessary

Better pedal placement for heal-toe shifting/braking - for real drivers

A GT with stickers, I think not.

not sure where hte brembo brakes came from........ the ones i've worked on had the exact same PBR dual piston calipers and 13" rotors that my cobra, all other cobra's and mach1's have.

Also i havent heard of the better pedal placement, I knew it had the better pedal covers, maybe they are larger or something.

Tremec tranny, it has the same T3650 that all 01+ 5-speed GT's have. The t5 hasnt been used since 1995

You are correct. They are PBRs. My bad. Still a big improvement over GT.

Not just different covers, but different placement. Take a look sometime.

I meant T45, and later 01s got the T3650 after Bullitt was already in production.

All in all, you have to admit there's quite a few more performance differences than just the intake.

Oh I agree completely, I was stating just about the engine specifically in my earlier post.

I truley believe the Bullitt's are better looking than the Machs. The Mach, from all I have seen and the drivers I've met all have a hardon for the Mach just as a throwback to the old ones and the added performance comes second. I have yet to meet someone in my age-range of mid-20s who really likes the Machs.

The Machs just come off as overstated to many people. The're over-wraught design, in-your-face characterstics are exactly what the Bullitt was not, and what the 05 tried desperately to stay away from.

In a list of all-in-all great Mustangs I put Bullitt second because it is worthy os second place. The 03-04 Cobras are just amazing. Performance, looks, value, everythign. The Bullitt has many of these characteristics too. The Mach however, in my circles, is just too much...

Just my opinion people.

Also, I don't Saleen or Roush. I was just going with the factory performers.

- but I would leave the bullitt alone-it's a collectors item, so don;t screw with it too much

I assume the 2V vs 4V might be it. I had the Series 40 Flowmasters on my '02 GT and white Mach 1. They were louder with a more noticeable drone on the GT.

Hardly collectible, its a late model Mustang. Anything considered collectible as soon as its built will never be. Unusual and different yes.
For instance, when Plymouth built those 6 426 Hemi Cuda' convertibles, they did not know(nor did anyone else) think they would be worth a million dollars one day.
Not a flame, so don't freak.
