Axle ratio on 95 GT

My father-in-law has a 1995 Mustang GT and would like to know what his rear axle ratio is. Is there a sticker or badge somewhere that would tell him?

The manual transmission cars came with a 2.73 rear axel ratio and I believe the automatics had a 3.27 or a 3.05? I think it was a 3.27...

It's in the VIN. There are a few places online that will "decode" your VIN and tell you what options your car came with.

Edit:

Found the link.

Also on the door jamb area there's a sticker that has a code for the axle ratio. I posted this some time ago on my cars thread: https://themustangsource.com/showpos...4&postcount=74

The VIN does not decode the axle ratio. Engine, yes. Axle (and transmission), no.

Here is a tip to tell you what axle ratio you have. Raise the rear of the car so the tires are off the ground. Draw a line on the inside of the tire, starting at the lower lip downwards towards the ground. You can use a piece of tape also. Then place tape or draw a line on the drive shaft. Turn the tires one full rotation and count how many times the tape on the drive shaft passes by. This will tell you what gears you have.

I have a 95 GT with stock 2.73's in an 8.8, 5speed and a somewhat built 5.0 (purchased the car as/is for $1500).... I plan on pulling the engine, glass, quarters, and interior and doing a full paint job and rebuilding the engine later for now I'll be driving it as a weekend car and a little track time.. being new to the Pony cars I am looking for some advice on gearing.. 3.73's or 4.10's ..... all comments and suggestions WELCOMED!

Although this is definitely a topic for another thread, it really depends on your plans for the car and how willing you are to lose MPG in your quest for fun. If it's no big deal then go with something crazy like 3.73 or 4.10. For the normal everyday driver 3.55 or 3.27 are a great street ratio while still at least acting like you want to get somewhere with a gallon of gas.

All depends on what you want. If really interested, start a new thread.
