4.6 blue smoke on start ups
4.6 blue smoke on start ups
I have a 2000 GT that has about 145,000 miles and on start ups there is blue smoke.
I know it's my valve seals and it only smokes on starts so my question is. Is there a way to stop or at least reduce it? I believe royal purple has an engine oil that helps the seals but is there any other options?
Thanks

Well, definitely sounds like an oil leak. Usually in the head gasket. But if you know the valves are bad that it might be a bad ring(s) on the pistons.
As far as a temporary fix? There is some gimmicky stuff at auto zone that is supposed to "seal" things like that. But we all know that stuff could do more harm than good. You could try a high milage oil with a higher cold weight but the additive in hm oils swells seals not rings (if that's the issue). So it might not do much either. You're best off having a mechanic look at it and fixing it ASAP before the issue causes more problems.
