03-04 Mach 1

Is there anything to 'look out for' when buying a used one? I am looking at a couple low mileage ones. One has a manual transmission and the opther an automatic. I am wondering if there are 'problem' items that frequently appear or had/costly to fox items to look out for?

Here is a link to the mach1registry.org section on 'Technical Q&A. HOW TO's, TSB's & Warranty Items.'

I have had zero issues with mine. Do you have a preference between the manual and auto? In case you didn't know the manual will have a forged crank and the auto will not.

What are some details about either car? Color? Miles? Etc.

Are they stock or modded? If they are mostly stock with maybe a few mods, like cai and exhaust, they should be fine. It they're heavily modded, who knows?

Both cars appear to be basicly stock. The manual trans car has a aftermarket shifter.

I was just wondering it there were any repetitive problems in these cars. I have seen a 2003 parked at the local dealer several times and one time it was there over a month. I also believe I have seen the same vehicle for sale several times.

The notorious head tick is also a commonly known problem on these cars. I would highly suggest listening to the car run before purchase. Appartently it doesn't have to do with mileage, so even low mileage cars are susceptible. Listen near the rear of the driver's side wheel well. If it is there it will be very apparent. There was a TSB about it, and some Machs/Cobras with the C heads got the driver's side replaced. Sorry I don't have more information.

I think someone here said also that the Manual will spin to 6800rpm, the auto only 5800...

Maybe you should run a Carfax on that particular Mach.

CarFax is a great idea,

Second, the higher RPM on manual is only because the auto converter would ballon at higher RPMS, The cranks are not weak in autos..

3rd the head tick is common, but less common in the 04 Model due to revised heads, This includes Cobras, which both use same heads.

5 speeds have syncro problems

Autos have tranny issues, if the person raced it, or drove it hard with Over Drive on, Never use Overdrive with hard accelerations..

Minor creak in back end is due to weak weld on inner wheel house,

Anything else look on Registry or , ask away here.
