Hey guys this is my first post, i purchased my first mustang about a month ago and it was a lightly modded v6 if u check my pictures there is one with a list of everything don't to it. Anyways today I was driving through some road construction at about 25 mph in 3rd gear when I noticed that the car was chugging very hard like the engine wasn't getting the right amount of gas but I've never had a problem like this befor. Anyways the check engine light came on and i brought it to the local auto parts store to use there code reader, but sadly I couldn't find the port to plug it in so I'm stuck not knowing the problem.... If anyone can help me ASAP it would be awsome!

I'm going to ask the obvious.... were you in a gear to high for the speed you were at?
Btw you don't need a code reader for 99+ mustangs. There's an in dash method to pulling the codes. As for pre 99 look under the passenger side dash by the center console.

Please list mods, miles and year aswell to better help use diagnose the problem.

That's probably why they couldn't find it. Its OBD 1 and I don't think parts stores can read that.

You might try replacing the fuel filter (that won't throw a code but could be causing your injectors to get bad or not enough gas), clean your maf and filter. If those don't do anything check the fuel pressure on the lines and then your injectors. It could be running lean.

All of this is based on you not thinking its getting enough gas. Might be easier to pin down if you can indentify any other symptoms.

I will also add, that those motors especially, are notorious for blowing head gaskets.

So I went in to Oreilly auto parts today and asked if they had another tip or there scanner the man walked out with me and took a look and after 15 minutes of not finding the port he far up and went back inside..... So I left and went to advance auto and asked to see there scanner tool.... It was a different tip and I plugged it into the port that I had found earlier.... The plug was obd2 and it shot the code for a camshaft position sensor.... So if anyone out there ha a cheap new one for sale hmu soon otherwise ill just o and buy the brand new one for 30 bucks thanks for all te info and quick replies everyone!
