Not much. V8 (4.6L) get 17 miles a gallon, V6 (3.8L) gets 20 miles a gallon.

Well in my personal experience... 01 v6 automatic doesnt get near the gas mileage my 96 cobra 5-speed does with the 4.6L DOHC. Dont know if the tranny has anything to do with it, but the v6 is underpowered for that car and therefore causes it to use alot more fuel due to having to lug the engine.

I'm not sure that the 3.9s have hit lots yet. Can anyone confirm?

They are on the lots now, drove them and it is the same. They are also in the Freestar minivan.

It is a slight increase in stroke. From what I can tell, it was more for the manufacturing of the engines along side the 4.2 than for "we have a bigger engine" bragging rights. The HP and Torque are the same as the 'old' 3.8

I bought an 02 coup 3.8v6 automatic and kept it in prime shape. Sold it to my girlfriend so that I could buy an 03 centennial edition convertible stick. The mpg seems to be the same. But I am much happier.

I bought the v6 to save on insurance. Now, when this one's paid off...I'm looking to buy a v8 with all the bells and whistles.

It was all I could afford after the insurance payed up, for that tow truck that ran a stop sign and payed my medical bills, and I could get insurance payments I could afford. I even got the spoilerless version to save money. The Mach 1 right in front of where I signed the contract was calling me but I just couldn't allow it to follow me home

I got my 2000 V-6 because it was the only convertible 5 speed i could find at a good price and in good condition. It's also my first car. I almost had a 97 cobra but it was sold before i could convince my mom that I'd be ok with it.
