I recently bought a 2004 V6 Mustang and wanted to add more horse power and do what ever I can to make it faster. I was thinking of supercharging it and adding dual exhaust flowmasters. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

If I were you I'd start with a simple intake exhaust and tune. Is your stang bone stock?

 

Yes it is stock. By intake do you mean cold air intake? I'm sorry I am a noob when it comes to mustangs. And what would be a good exhaust to go with and about much would it cost? Thanks.

 

Yes a cold air intake (CAI), check out www.americanmuscle.com they'll have mostly everything you'd want. As for exhaust I'd start with a cat-back system. I have flowmasters on my GT.

 

Me thinks you should start with full bolt ons a tune before supercharging it.

Might want to add 8.8 rear end swap onto your list.

If you really wanted you could get a 99-04 cobra IRS and could handle great on the curves

If you do go IRS it would be smart to wait till after you have the axle to get some exhaust work as the IRS runs different.

 

I'm guessing he didnt buy a GT due to finacial reasons like ensurence other wise I think he would have at least gotten a gt?

 

Either way, the V6 is a great motor with good potential. An 8.8 should be one of the first things done to a sixxer if power is in the plans. The 7.5 has many limitations in the respect.

Not saying the first, but if the OP plans to SC then an 8.8 is a neccessary upgrade.

This would be my list to start out if that's what I was going for.....

Exhaust (catback, h-pipe)
Windstar intake manifold with CAI
Short throw Shifter
8.8 rear with 4.10 Gears
Tune

What will the approximate horsepower gains be with the cold air intake, exhaust upgrade, and tune be? I am excited about these upgrades and already found a shop that specializes in Ford Mustangs. Thanks again for all of the advice and tips.

 

I'm not sure on gains but most of it will come from the tune.

If you get duel exhaust get a GT rear bumper with the exhaust cut outs

 

Maybe 20hp. The majority of that will depend on what tune you get. Little to nothing will be gained from the CAI and maybe 5-8hp from the exhaust. The tune is where you will see the most.

 

OP ever think about using a turbo instead of a supercharger? There are some beast v6 mustangs with single/twin turbo out there. I think that's better than doing all this just to be faster stock GT. It won't be that much faster with a supercharger but a turbo will make it a lot faster than a stock GT. It all depends on how fast/money you have to throw at you car, just putting the idea of a turbo out there! Twin turbo rules!

Yes it will be more expensive with a turbo on your car. Turbo kits usually cost more to get. Depending on how much boost and size of the turbo and how you tune it you can keep it the power low enough for your car to handle without forged internals an a build drivetrain. As for how much more hp and torque it's this; if your car is stock with a supercharger it's likely to gain 50-60%. Twin turbo can get your car up to 500 which is more than double your power output stock. Only issues is the stock engine can't handle that much power and you'll need to build your car up for it. With a single turbo I know you can get 300-400 probably more depending on boost and size of the turbo. I would only really recommend this route if you are planing on building up your car more than bolt ons. Hopefully someone who has turbo'd a six banger posts as my knowledge of using a turbo with this year v6 is limited at best.

 

If you go the FI route go with blower for sure, half the cost, the power is just as good(if your not going for 1000hp), and that sweet wine

 

Or two massive turbos spooling up making your car sound like a jet! But yes it is cheaper to get a blower and the chances of something breaking is decreased. Though a single turbo wouldn't be as bad. I know of a few GT's that run a single turbo no problem. Only diff for the v6 is the amount of power it's limited too.

 

I think the stock v6 motor is good for 300 hp. Not sure if that was rwhp or flywheel
