Upgraded gears...impact speedo?
I recently upgraded my gears from 3.27's to 3.73's. What I'm wondering is: Would I need to make any adjustments to the speedometer? Either the traffic on the highway was moving along faster this morning than usual or my speedometer now reads a higher mph than it should. Any thoughts?
Yes your speedo will be off. If your car is a 5-speed, you may be able to use a speedcal, but if it is an automatic, you will have to have a chip burnt to recalibrate the speedometer and odometer.
Dallasmustang.com is who created the speedcal, check with to see if it will work with your application.
If you need a chip, I highly recommend http://www.bamachips.com

I'm really surprised they didnt bring it up to you.
A speedcal will save you money in teh short term compared to a chip, but if you are eventually going to get one, might want to do it now. A chip can gain you more hp, better fuel economy (maybe) and a few other things as well as adjust your speedo. It will cost more immediately, but pays off in the long run in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip. Odds are I'll go the cheaper route for this Stang, since it's my '99 V6 with 103K miles. I'm planning on ordering an '06 GT around Christmas or so. When I get around to doing some mods on that one, I'll keep this in mind. Thanks again.
