trans fluid question
trans fluid question
As is using synthetic oil for the motor, I'm considering using synthetic transmission fluid for my next trans fluid change. I have an automatic. yes, I know it's Mercon V spec fluid required. my question is, can the fluid just be straight up replaced from just a regular drain of the old and refill of the new? would you even find this a smart move? I'm obviously wanting to achieve the same effect with this as motor oil in that synthetic > conventional and better for the engine life's longevity... as is I want the trans to last a long time too.
Yes, you can drain the old fluid and replace with new, but i'd have the pan dropped and filter swapped at the same time its drained. Also the gasket on the tranny pan should be a reuseable (it was on my 00 gt, I am guessing the same for v6's) and is better than all of the cheaper ones you get at autozone type places. Make sure you dont discard it.
