last week i was going on my uncles 2001 automatic v6 convertible on the freeway and since there wasnt any one else besides him, he decided to check out the top speed. He went a little over 120. So i wanted to know if all v6 mustang convertibles go this fast or the first owner modified the car.

 

V6 to go over 120 mph? No way.

 

your not gonna break 120 in a stock 3.8 mustang but if you want you can get a diablo flash tuner and change shift points, shift firmness ect if you really wanna get rid of your speed govenor if your gonna be doing some racing and free up a lotta lost hp you can get a new chip for example sct or diablo ( not the flash tuners but an acual chip )

 

my cousin got his stock 95 v6 up to a very scary 115 and chickend out...thankfully, im not sure if he maxed it out he didnt push it any harder

 

All I will say is..... yes they can go over 120mph

you cant break 116mph unless you have a chip or flash tuner, either will work. Diablo, SCT or Autologic are all great chips/tuners. You can raise the revlimiter, change shiftpoints, lower the temperature for when the fan comes on and more.

also with a chip the v6 stang wont get much over 130 if you have enough patience to get there in the first place.

 

a stock automatic v6 convertible is not going to go over 120 you need a stock 5 spd gt coupe to get those numbers

The limiters are what kill that top speed. If you can fool it, the car will easily pull over 120.

I had an 89 Honda Accord. 120HP, 4 banger. Got the thing up to 125 because the car was "pre-limiter" technology.

Of course-I did that the day before I traded it in. :spin:

Wouldn't 4.10 gears kill your top speed?

 

Yep, they will, cool for acceleration, but will cripple the top speed.

i just hope i can at least get 120 mph with those 2 modifications... if not, then it will still be good, ill have some fun with the acceleration.

 

If you put 4.10's on it, I doubt you will get to 120, but the acceleration will be wicked!

 

 

I hit about 112 on the freeway one time, didn't try any harder...but it got there a decent rate...120 though...on a vert, hmmmm.
