As you might know I recently bought a 2001 Roush Mustang. I would like a little more power out of it. I've tried to do some reasearch but I dont find many results for applications for the V6, most of them are for the Cobras or GTs. Anyways my questions are...

Which makes more horsepower (S/C or Turbo) when running around 7psi. when running a set-up similar to mine edit: (Roush V6 CAI and Roush Exhaust)

On average how much do they cost? What is an average installation fee?

Which companies have the best performance for the dollar?

Thanks for your time. I appriciate everything!

Does anyone know if they make a Kenne Bell Supercharger for a 2001 V6 SOHC, I would be curious cause all I have seen are the kits for the GTs. Thanks

There are several forced induction applications for the 3.8L mustang. As far as I know Procharger and Vortech make centrifugal supercharger kits and pro turbo kits makes a turbo kit for the V6 application.

KenneBell doesn't make a blower kit for the V6 mustangs unfortunately. Not flaming you, just an FYI, but our motors are OHV (over head valve) and not SOHC (single over head cam). We still got a cam in the block B) .
Turbo will make the most power, but it also costs more and is harder to install. You can check out some pricing at Need-4-Speed. For good prices on bolt-ons/engine internals check out RPM Mustangs Mikael has great customer service.
Installation fee is something else. Gonna be pricey I'm sure. The supercharger kits claim about an 8 hour installation time, so take whatever labor is times that. You'll save a lot doing it yourself and when you're done you can tell everyone "yup.. just put a supercharger on my stang."

Not a dumb question at all, everyone has to learn somehow. Superchargers are belt driven from your crankshaft and turbos use the backpressure from your exhaust to spin the impeller. And then there's centrifugal and positive displacement superchargers. Centrifugal superchargers make boost in direct correlation with the RPM, hence the name centrifugal. They make full boost at peak RPMs and they look like a turbo charger mixed in your accessories. Positive displacement (also called roots blowers) superchargers sit on top the engine and pretty much are the upper intake. They make full boost at low RPMs and offer a wide torque curve but lack high RPM efficiency.

Good info here Cajunsix.

Also to add in a bit, turbo's are the most effecient form of power adder since they dont take Hp to make Hp (i.e. using a belt to spin the blower). A centrifugal s/c and a turbo both pushing 7lbs will make about the same HP, but the trq from teh turbo will more than likely be higher. Whatever your route is, try to go with something that uses an intercooler. Being able to run cooler air will allow you to make more power safer. Also make sure you have the car custom tuned.. that is the life of the engine with a power adder. Go to a reputable shop in your area to really get an idea of what you need and what its going to cost.

Roush produces a V6 edition? Where have I been? Good thing I don't have a Mustang, or my license would be revoked. :notnice:

Roush Stage 1s can have a V6 or a V8 engine.

As far as the supercharger/turbocharger info I can't say much more than what has already been said. If you don't have a ton of money to spend, the supercharger is the best way to go. Most 3.8L owners I know use the Vortech. Also with a supercharger you get instant boost.
