Putting a 98 4.6L in a 03 V 6, what is needed
Was thinking of putting a V8 in the daughter V 6?
What all needs to be done? Is it worth it? Do I need to change the rear end to handle the added power?

no point in using a 98 engine since it has only 30 or so hp over the 6er. unless you are putting PI heads and intake on it would be cheaper to just supercharge the 6 cyl.
I don't know all that needs to be done, but the rear end should definnatly be done since the 7.5 and lack of limited slip will A) sucky traction and B) most likly break.

I agree with Knight the 96-98 4.6s are junk! (speaking from experience) If you are going through the trouble of an engine swap i'd go with either a DOHC or 3V 05-08 motor.
I recently considered doing an engine swap in my 97' GT and It is a time consuming and very expensive process. You would probably be better off selling the V6 and buying a GT. Remember even after you swap out the motor you still have V6 suspension, brakes etc......

the front k-member needs to be replaced for a 4.6 because the engine mounts won't line up but if you put in a 5.0 it will bolt right up V6 and GT brakes are the same the only thing different in supension is the sway bars and struts

It's a headache to be sure if you put a 4.6 in. BlueThunderHorse is right about the 5.0 swap though. Seen and heard about those being the popular swap once people find the 4.6 is a pain... which its also a pain to put into an '86 RX7.. which is why there is ironicly a 5.0 in there now. If you want to you could always just hop up the V6. Super Six Motorsports specializes in the 6 cylinders and has quite a few 3.8/9 parts available.
