Overheating

Does anyone know if there is some sort of a fail safe mode for 03 v6 when they overheat? Mine overheated and then I lost all power afterwards.

couldn't say for sure. what made it overheat? waterpump go out? blown hose? just a leak overtime? how hot did it get before it shut off? did u happen to see the gauge before it shutdown? once its cooled all the way down try to start it. if you don't hear anything unusual you should be ok, just be sure to replace thermostat as well.

It overheated on me while I was driving down the highway at a constant 65. I had the AC running, which always lags my car down so I seldomly use it, so I don't know if the extra pull on the engine, and the heat that day may have caused it. I have had no problems out of my car, this just randomly happened. As I was driving, I noticed the AC got warm and the I lost all power, I hit the gas and I just kept decelerating. Then I looked at the temp gauge and as soon as I saw it, it noticed it was almost to the red line and then it dropped to zero really fast. So I pulled over and popped the hood and the coolant had backed up and filled the reservoir almost completely. It was really dark colored so I checked the oil but everything checked out. So I hauled it home, changed the thermostat and flushed the cooling system. When I cleaned it out, you wouldn't believe the rust and debris that was in there. My only clue is that the coolant may have been bad or the debris clogged something up because when I removed the thermostat, the coolant in the engine looked brand new.. I drove it afterwards and it's been fine.

It was just strange to me how I lost all power when it happened and the gauge fell to zero. It's overheated before but never did anything like that.
