I'm looking to do my first mods to my 2000 Mustang and wanted to get some thoughts from you guys, if they were worthwhile:

MagnaFlow CatBack Stanless Steel bolt on

MAC Straight Shot Cold Air kit.

Looks like both should be pretty easy to do myself and should be a decent starting point....

Any thoughts?

Paul, do you want to be modding it for performance when it will be your Daughter's car? I think that the mods should be pretty simple, and it will certainly sound better!

Actually, I'm more modding it for me for just making it a tad more fun to drive to work everyday for the next year or two tops...is that wrong of me???

lol

Seriously though, that's a good point. I'll have to mull that over some......We'd be talking approximately $450 for the parts (that was just a quick search) for both mods, with shipping. And I'd have to pull the mods back off when she got the car, because I think that the 190 hp might be alot for her at first anyway.

Believing what the advertisments are quoting for max horsepower from the mods, it would push it into the neighborhood of 220-230 hp....a bit much for her first car, imo.

Aside from my daughter taking the car, is my thinking right, that this would be a good place to start?

Thanks for the input!

A cold air kit is where most people start, followed by exhaust! You might want to get the chip re-mapped, I think that adds a little hp, (mine got done by a previous owner in the states)

Cool, I'm glad I'm at least on the right track...I did see something about resetting the chip on 3.8mustang.com, so that's an option too.

Thanks for the help!

Exhaust and CAI are the best place to start on a 6. Believe me though, the add only small HP but much better sound! My last 2000 V6 got this treatment when I converted it to a Roush stang. That being said I think you could leave it on when you give it to your daughter...just my $0.02.

How much of a HP improvement should I expect with both an exhaust and CAI mod? I know what the advertisment says, but real world is always different....

Paul, my car has just recieved a true dual treatment of Flows (trust me, it sounds great if you can chip in the extra money for true duals and stainless steel pipes/outlets) from a shop, this cost me 450$. If you do it your self, which I am sure if you got a friend to help out, it would only cost you about 300$.

I haven't put anything else on the car, and honestly...truely, I picked up a little more HP. I can deffinetly feel it, and it sounds nice to be able to roar with the big boys. I started out at 193HP...as of now, I am prolly around 197-199HP.

-----------**--------------
Now I have a question for all ya'. I heard that if you go with a K&N whole set-up (around 150-180$) it is same/better than adding a CAI? True or not, I have no idea....what do you guys' think?

True duals....meaning replacing the headers and everything or just cutting and welding for that price? Cause that doesn't sound too bad at all....like you said, it's only a $100.00 more, pro install and true duals...

Is this the K & N that you are talking about?:

K & N intake

I would say those mods will add no more than 5-10HP at most. True duals go right up through the headers, correct. I used a Densecharger cold air system from the MAF forward. Great product and they were a great place to order from.

Paul,

Yes, that is the K*N I am talking about...if you want, I would only pick either the K*N or CAI, which ever you think would help you out the best!

And yes, I got everything done for that price! Labor, materials, and tax!

That's sweet! I've got to start looking around for a good shop guy, because now I'm thinking I will go with the true duals. I saw on 3.8 mustang.com, a guy was giving a step by step on how to change the headers, but I think that might be a little more than I want to bite off right now.

At least not without some experienced help!
