Little Sis' wants a Mustang....Advice Needed
#1
Alright, so my little sister is finally ready to get a car, and she wants a V6 Mustang, around a '97 or '98(newest that can be afforded right now). So lets have it. I'd love to hear anything and everything you all have to say about these cars, focusing on MY's 1997-1998. Pros? Cons? Did they have any major recalls or recurring engine or tranny problems? How do they do in snow? Please post whatever imput you can.
I want to know these cars inside and out before I head out to a dealer with her, to make sure she gets the best car she possibly can. Thanks again for any input you all may have.

Check out Brad's timeline for engine info and info like that. But you already knew that
All mustangs a bad in the snow. Period. I live in Ohio, I know this. But if you put added weight in the back it helps a lot. I put 40 lb bags of lime wrapped in garbage bags in the trunk in the winter and it makes a big difference.
I do know that there was a hp increase between 98 to 99. So that generation isn't quite as quick as the new ones. My brother has a 94 and he is having a little trouble with the auto trans.

On stock tires, it will be crappy in snow, but snow tires make a world of difference. Some of the older 3.8s had head gasket problems, but I think that issue was resolved by 97-98. I'd still give some though to finding a nice 99+, The extra 43 hp would be worth it. Also, traction control was an option after 99, if winter driving is a concern.

If Mustang V6 have manual transmission it's not so bad on the snow.
I live in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin and winters are really bad here but I drove my Mustang on the snow. Sure, you have to drive slow and everything, but its not so bad (my Mustang still have stock tires). I also did have weight in the trunk.
But man, I would stay away from V6 Mustang. Sure, I like mine and everything, but Fox-body 5.0 would be better choice.
