I've been wanting to get one of these for a while but just couldn't spend the $50 at any time.

I set out to Pep Boys to buy brakes. Cool, cool. My brother-in-law, a mechanic at Midas, starts to put them on for me. After getting the car on the lift, taking the wheels off and loosening the calipers he realized that I was given the wrong brakes! The dip $%&# at Pep Boys gave me brakes for a Cobra! I remember specifially telling the guy that I had a V6 and then saying 3.8.

I end up with some brakes from Advanced Auto Parts for $5 cheaper. So I go back to Pep's later and try to get a refund on an obvious mistake of thiers. I don't have a reciept and they refuse to give me a refund even though the purchase was made on a credit card, which the purchase could be proven.

I haggle with the old lady for a while and I end up walking out the door. I come back half an hour later thinking, heck I can get that K&N filter I've been wanting. I check the K&N computer thing and get the size it says to get. I exchange for the filter and go to install before I even leave the store. The stupid thing won't fit!! I push it in as far as I can and it won't go!

So I go back in and get one of the Pep's employees to help. He tries and can't get it but then offers no help or solution. I then go back and ask the parts guy to pull up the part number for a 2002 V6 K&N filter. Low and behold it gives me a different part number. THE RIGHT ONE!!

I finally for my freaking filter and I'm happy for it. I just don't know if I'll ever go back to Pep Boy's!

And if you read all this, I admire you!

dont the cold air filters make a bit more noise than a stock filter? That was one reason I was considering getting one myself.

It does sound a little different. And I can tell the car "appreciates" it a bit more. When I took out my old one I found acorns and a couple of leaves in there.

Did they speak ENGLISH in your car parts store or SPANGLISH?

K&N filters are great though.

It just feels a little different. My car felt like it had a lag in 1st and 2nd. It hasn't done this since I put in the new filter. I'm not to educated in the matter of cars but I do feel the car runs a little better than it had been. The last air filter was extremely filthy, contained nuts and leaves. Which is kind of messed up because it should have been changed during my tuneup and oil change a couple months ago.

The only other thing I've done recently is have my brakes changed. I've also changed my driving style due to the suggestion of my girlfriends brother, aka my mechanic. He kept telling me that I am pushing my 6 to hard and to try shifting earlier, more often. I'm always in a hurry so I'm trying to get the most out of every gear.

In the last 6 months I've had a basic tuneup and new tires put on as well.

Sounds like you had a "visitor" that was nesting for the winter! lol

If you wouldn't mind, do you still have the part number for the K&N filter? That way I can just walk into my Pep Boys and not have to deal with the Spanglish speakers.

http://www.knfilterchargers.com/search/pro...spx?Prod=E-0940 is the right part number! Don't let anybody (man or machine ) tell you otherwise! heh

They also have this nifty little thing!
Yeah I was out to sea for 6 months and my Stang was left on my inlaws farm. My wife didn't bother to cover it or any thing. I had a couple of visitors! A couple little rodents and other things. Got that all cleaned out though.

I think its worth it just for the money you save. Thats if you plan on keeping your Mustang for forever.

After fitting the new filter, accelleration definately seems smoother. Although I am not sure if it is quicker, the engine note has really changed!

That is just it, even for a six, it gives it more of a burble. It is a K&N filtercharger.

ok so i bought the $50 filter. does it go inside the ovalish housing where the old filter is? or did you all buy the entire kit with the tubes that lead to the throttle body?

also, if you did install it just where the current filter is, did it fit properly? and how hard was it? mine has a bolt that has to be unscrewed to open up access to the filter housing

It goes right where the old one did. I had to manipulate it a bit (i.e. bend tube this way and that!). It helps if you remove the retaining screw that holds the front of the housing to the side of the engine bay. It will make you curse a bit (and hurt my back because I was bending over for too long!) but it is worth it.
