Engine Swap
#1
I have had my 2000 V6 Mustang for a little over a year now and have been able to save up some money to get a newer engine. I am trying to find out what kind of engine would fit in the 2000 model and what would be the best one for its money. Pleaz help,
Brian.

Brian,
If you upgrade to a 4.6, remember that you hve to change all the runing gear......you would be best selling your current car and putting the money you get for it and the money you have saved and get yourself a V8

Agreed. An engine swap could actually be more costly than buying a newer Stang. You could always go with a supercharger though for some decent gains.
4.10's would also benefit you.

Have you thought about dropping in a 4.2 from a F150? Or converting your 3.8 into a 4.2?
There's lots of discussion about this upgrade over at the 3.8 Mustang Message Board.

^ right, with 4.6, 5.4 you also need to do a great deal of suspension not to mention rear end ecu ect its a lot of work you could prob buy a GT for what it would cause, but like said above you could do a 4.2, theres certain 4.2 blocks out there with the right heads cam an manifold put you at atleast 300rwhp. but it all depends on how much $ your willing to throw down

The V6 he has is built for 190 hp. You throw a 300 hp motor in there, you are still going to have to change the brakes, rear end, prop shafts, drive shafts, uj's, clutch, etc etc. This is what a lot of people forget. the car's running gear is designed around the engine, you suddenly add 50% more power, you gotta improve the running gear by 50%
