rode in my brother in-laws 00 V-6 the other day and his clutch pedal is wicked high, like a 9 in travel. I was wondering if the V8 models were like that? And i am size 13 shoes and my feet barley fit in the car, let alone be able to hit the pedals one at a time. Dad drove it and said the same about the high pedal and he had a 86 and had no such problem, is their a way to adjust the pedal in the newer cars? I posted here because i wanted to know about the V8 stangs clutch.

 

Yeah, the V6 does seem to grab really high. My friends GTs aren't like that, though. You can get an adjustable clutch cable and firewall adjuster. Makes adjustments easy.

i originally had a 90GT with sstick, i now drive a 95GT with stick, the two cluthes are differnt feeleing, very different. the 95 picks up higher, but grabs at the same low (like 1,000) rpm. ive been told by mechanics that the clutch on my 90 was mechanical and on my 95 the clutch is hydrolic. it gives it a softer feeling and a little higher pickup. there are ways to adjust it, but it doesnt really bother me,the 86-fox body (stick also) that i destroyed off the line the other day can attest to that .

 

The factory setup is a self adjusting clutch quadrant. I was glad when I ripped that thing outta mine to put the steeda pieces on. Final5pt0, your 95 GT should have a mechanical clutch too. Less stuff to work on or break IMO . And good job against the 86.

 

i've heard a lot of complaints about the 99-04 gt clutch. i personally love it!

it's not too stiff but not too squishy.

my buddy's civic si has the most spongy clutch i have ever felt in my life. it's truly terrible.

then my dad's 450hp '86 trans am has the stiffest clutch i've ever felt. i learned standard on that car too. hehe. not to mention that the gas pedal is so sensitive with so much power.. talk about a nervous learning experience.

 

Trans Am High clutch is no good for drag racing situations. Civic is not even considered a race car.........at all........
My dads 86 GT (350hp) had a low clutch that was extremely stiff (prevents smoking it up) and it is quicker and has a lower travel time, so makes for better speed shifts.
