To Build or Buy

In my introduction I stated that I was ready to get serious about the power plant in my 03 V6.
My goal is somewhere in the 400-450 hp range. My plan is to either go with one of the well known builders (Morana/Super Six) or build it. Either way, I am probably going to go with a procharger since twin turbos would break the bank.
So before starting the research and pricing of parts, I send it to you guys. Knowing that I can get a crate from 7-10k (depending on the options), should I go with the crate or could I save significant $ by building it? And by significant, I mean could I then afford the twin turbos that I want? My entire budget is around 15k.

Peace

So you're going to stay with the V6? $15k on a 03 sixer just doesn't seem wise to me. Sell your ride and use the $15k to completely upgrade vehicles, or V8 engine swap on yours sounds a lot better.
If you don't build engines for a living, I wouldn't attempt to build my own motor especially if going turbo. The only reason I see keeping the sixer is insurance purposes. If you do a V8 engine swap, the vin and insurance will still say V6.

Putting $15k into an '03 V6 is like getting a boob job for your grandma.

You're going to spend way more to extract that power out of a V6, than you would with a crate V8. I'd say find a new motor rather than building a V6 up.

Why build anything when a new gt with full factory warranty is 420hp right out of the box? Are you going to build something better? With coming CAFE standards we are at the high water right now. This is the time to buy.
