My 2002 V6 has the Mach 460 system in it. I thought it was the normal system.

Why would you buy 5-way speakers, a good set of mids and tweets, with external crossover will sound just as good if not better.

I agree, a good set of quality components (mid, tweeter and external crossover unit) is all you need for a good sound stage if using subwoofers in a car.

Well, My wife bought me a sony cd/mp3 head unit for my birthday. Evil_capri helped me out by buying the Crutchfield adaptor and sending it to me, Thanks Jason . Today, I finally went about fitting it!

For those thinking of changing their head unit on a non-mach460 stereo, here is what you have to do...

First of all, you need to get the new head unit's wiring set and splice the cruchfield loom onto it (easy, set of crimps will do it,). You DO NOT need the whole length of speaker wire (two feet does! Jason, we were both right about that one!).
Right, to the car!. Remove both the radio and the CD unit (pull tools available at most auto places). Take a 7mm socket driver and remove the 2 screws in the fascia above the CD player slot. Take the same socket ad put the extender piece on it, there is a screw that needs removing right at the end of the slider (if you are doing this, you will see what I mean).

Remove the centre console piece (air vents come with it).

6 mm socket and remove the three screws that hold the amp in place, pull the back of the amp toward you and remove the speaker output cable. Plug this into the Speaker part of the Crutchfield kit. Replace the centre console, add the new head unit's cage to the din hole the radio came from. Replace the CD player in it's slot (do not plug any wires back in),
Finally, plug your new head unit back in, push into slot and hey presto!

This sounds easy, but took about 4 hours, and resulted in about 20 cuts to my hands! I will post a picture of the wiring rat's nest soon!

If anyone is wanting to change their non-mach460, PM me, I will try to help if neccesary! The new Sony sounds great! (anyone wanting to send me their mp3 filled CD's, please pm me!!)

Finally, Thanks Jason for getting me the adaptor kit, and thanks to Scot for your advice. Now the new radio is in, I have realised that the stock amp was rubbish and I do not actually need a sub!

I hope my experiences canhelp someone else!

James

Thanks Nathan!

I thoroughly enjoyed driving to work this morning! (especially as it was light as we changed back to GMT over the weekend!)

Yes, the mach 460 was avaible in 6s either in a package or upgrade. No different than 8s.
