2001 v6 New purchase Time to get started and the Rear End is where I plan to start...
So on the 20th of jan after months of looking for a low mile car around 8 grand on used car lots I finally found a one owner 2001 Ford Mustang v6 with 49k miles on it I rolled over 50 thousand and as of the first of feb I changed my oil, did a tune up normal stuff when you buy any used car... But shes clean, very clean... and I usually do somethings with any car I buy and build (mostly vw's so this is a new place for me not blue ovals ive owned a couple ford trucks but mustangs are new) but after some reading and before I decide to go and put a bunch of power adders I think I should just go head and throw an 8.8 gt rear end under my 01 from a 00 to 04 gt which would be a direct bolt on..... the reason im having issues deciding what to do is because its got traction control and is a 5 speed... so Do my question is before I go to the junk yard and pull the 8.8 and clean it up do i need to find another car with electronic traction control and an 8.8 rear end ? or whats up ? how do i get rid of this 7.5 /7.8" rear with 2:73s? 2:37s? to an 8.8" with traction and 3:73's obviously im planning to add power but why waste the money when its going to shred the rear end and... Its a Peg leg car soooo... power time, posi is needed.... and winter time traction is needed... so i need to have both ya get me... oh yeah traction is needed for my driveway even if its just wet.... only thing ive done other than the normal is throw on a set of yoko avid invigor tires on over the stock goodyear contiential rubber that was on there.... the car currently has 52k miles.... so its time to start... and get it ready for forced induction... this v6 needs more pep....

I don't know much when it comes to traction control, however, I would imagine there's some sort of sensor/s on the rear. I guess you would have to find an 8.8 that came with traction control (which I think is probably the majority of them) and then it just plug an play. I personally haven't seen a 99-04 gt the didn't have it, so I don't think you will have a lot of trouble finding one.
However, it wouldn't have any adverse effects if you got one without. You could just keep the trac off or remove it all together.

Traction control works via the ABS sensors on the axles. It compares the speed of the front wheels to the speed of the rear. If the rear is moving faster than the front it thinks the tires are spinning and randomly drops spark to each cylinder.
