Hello,

Any suggestions for a good brand of winter tires for a 1980 Mustang? The roads are pretty ugly here right now, and road curling isn't as fun as it sounds, hehe. I've had trouble finding decent tires in the past since it appears that a lot of companies have stopped making that tire size (P185 80 R13), leaving it to the discount brands, i.e. Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire Motomaster. So, if you happen to have a set of tires that you've been happy with, please let me know the brand!

Thanks for the info, unfortunately Bridgestone only makes two tires in that size, both all season tires.

You should be able to find a set of wheels for next to nothing in a 14" or 15" for winter wheels.....I know people around here give away 14" Mustang wheels and you can buy 15" 10 holes or turbines dirt cheap....

svopaul is right...because I have 2 sets of wheels for my car that I can't seem to even GIVE away! I assume your 13's are 4 lug or what? I have the original 14" 4lug wheels that came on my car and 2 of them are even studded lol (the guy I bought it from used to drive some pretty killer hills i guess) but that was like 6 yrs ago so the rubber is probably no good now, rims should be good tho. Also, I have this set of 15" 4lug that I got from tirerack (see pic below) these wheels and tires are still in good shape. They should fit your car, not sure tho. So if your in the NYS area you can drop by and i'll just GIVE 'em to ya (or anyone else who may want 'em) so I can get 'em off my patio! lol.

Thanks for the offer! I'd take you up on it, but NY is a long drive from Alberta, hehe. Finding a new/used set of rims shouldn't be too hard. Will changing to a different wheel size affect the ride/handling at all?

For free if he is willing to ship them to you, you might want to consider paying shipping on those alloy wheels....If he marked them as a gift you would not have to pay duty on them and UPS, Fedex or DHL shouldn't be too back to ship them...but considering they are free it would probably still be worth it. Shipping those would be easy....cut out 8 cardboard circles and duct tape them around the rim face and tire, slap a label on them and they are good to go

If you up to a 15" wheel and tire like those alloys, your handling will improve greatly over the 13" wheels you have. I know for a fact that Bridgestone makes those blizzaks in a 225/60-15 as I had a set once for use when I lived in MD...when I moved to Alabama I couldn't give the things away even though they were like new...I think I ended up ebaying them to someone in the northeast for some cheap price.

Just retread your current wheels like Nathan said and Buy new wheels and tires for the winter. I think welds or 95 R wheels would look great for the summer, then u could use the stock ones for the winter. If the new wheel and tire prices r a bit high, go for a set of used wheels and tires in a set on ebay. Take-off wheels are always cheap.

I work in a Goodyear service center...have had many types of snows on different year Foxes 1981 Capri RS,1986GT,and now my daily driven 1993 LX.....the best snows out there are made by a company called Nokian [not the phone]....no problem passing SUVs in the snow!!! I have no problem pitting them against any other snow out there!!!
