What's a good exhaust setup for a Fox LX 5.0 Vert?
Just like the title says. I'm looking to upgrade the original stock exhaust setup in my 1991 LX 5.0 convertible. I'd like to do LT headers, with highflow cats, h-pipe, and some type of chambered muffler setup. But I don't want it to get TOO loud. I know what LT's can do. So I need something that keeps the exhaust flowing, but that doesn't sound like straight pipes or loud mouths.
Any suggestions?
Which brand of headers would you use?
Also the more money I save, the more I can spend elsewhere.

of all the research i've ever done JBA headers seem to carry the best in town power/price. Steer clear of MAC products(it's 50/50 on quality) and you can't go wrong with Hooker either.
As far as Midpiipes go I've been very sastified with BBK's H-pipes and i've installed both a catted and offroad on Fox chassis based mustangs. Fit was great, sound was awesome......but.......here's the problem...sound levels! Now granted we ran 2 chamber flowmasters on both vehicles but the difference before the H-pipe and after was astonishingly loud...
So here's the alternative: Out of everything I've ever heard and read...Magnaflow is like the silencer to your pistol. I've run across a few people who have had obnoxiously loud setups and switching their mufflers to Magnaflow. They claimed that it toned down the sound while keeping the "grunt"/"growl" and still mainted proper flow for power output.

Stay away from the Flowmaster American thunder kit if you run LT's and so happen to run a off road anything pipe. You will be heard from over a mile away, if you drive spirited like I do.

I was leaning to the BBK LT's and Flowmasters with the BBK mid-pipe, but I'm having trouble finding BBK LT headers for an auto car. All that I have found so far say 5 speed, or no auto.

I'm checking on a Pacesetter setup. Affordable and it doesn't say it won't work on an auto.
I also misspoke earlier, I'm not looking at Flowmasters, I'm looking at Magnaflows for the mufflers.

Well I tracked down the Bassani headers, ceramic coated, which I don't care for either way, for like $775 So that's not gonna happen.
And some Pacesetter headers. Either black or "armorcoated" Between $250 and $405 depending.
Both of these according to my direct contact with manufacturers will work on auto 5.0's and are long tube headers.
So anybody know anything about these Pacesetter headers?
The car won't see much rain anymore. She'll be a garage queen. I am planning on putting on AFR 165 heads someday, and upgrading to the E303 cam, and probably a GT40 or Trickflow intake. So the headers won't be working alone for long.

I cannot comment on pacesetter's exact fitment for a mustang but a friend got crazy with his 4.2L F150 and bought LT headers from them and I know it's a truck with a V6 which = crazy amounts of room but everything cleared effecintly including the steering shaft, etc. We also found the quality to be very very good and they're still looking good to this day(7 years later).
Also you can't go wrong with the Magnaflows. Even if you did go with an Off Road H those Magnaflows will quiet her down quite a bit and make the decibal lvl manageable.

The magnaflows,with the mac prochamber sounds ready good.Not to loud.As for long tube its a little bit of work to get them in.As for headers i always had the mac ones,not the best quality but good fitment.

. . . I used JBA Shorty, FRPP H-pipe, and Flowmaster cat-backs on all three of my 5.0s and loved the sound. Are you planning on modifying the engine to take full advantage of the LTs? Make sure what ever headers you get will work with any aftermarket heads too (most do save GT40p). Don't want to get the GT40p heads after you get headers as you will need specific GT40p headers . . . . but you probably already knew all of this.

I'm planning on using the AFR 165cc heads (someday) and I understand these will work. But my info could be wrong.
After putting long tubes on the s197, I hope I can handle it on the Fox. It should be fine. I'll just take my time and take out anything in my way.

Yeah, I think the only heads one has to worry about header fitment are the GT40p. I love the sound of a stout 5.0 with a killer exhaust system. Nothing quite like it!

On mine I had to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor up to get the drivers side header in the passenger side goes on pretty easy

On the s197 I had to remove motor mounts, motor mount brackets, starter, steering link, battery and battery tray, and jack the motor up as far as I could and it was still a PITA. So nothing could be as bad as that was.
At least I hope.
